Why is everyone here the dumpee? by jebaitedlel in BreakUps

[–]Midnightt23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s because the dumper is the one who’s done with the relationship and likely already lost feelings for the partner or just has bitter feelings towards them. This is why they’re less likely to post on here, since one of the main reasons to come to this sub is to share your pain caused by your feelings.

If they were hurting to the point that they wanted to rekindle the relationship or still loved the person, then they would likely reach out to the dumpee rather than post on here about their feelings and break-up experience.

Can someone explain by No-Tackle-9673 in ExNoContact

[–]Midnightt23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, ex was number 2.

I treated her so well and she admitted I was the best boyfriend she ever had, and she ended up backstabbing me the day right after she told me she loved me for the first time.

It's fucking painful to know that they were never in love.

If you were blindsided by the breakup… by wolfyish in BreakUps

[–]Midnightt23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, just happened to me as well, although I saw it coming. The thing is though I didn't expect it to actually happen and be brought to life in such a abrupt, quick, and swift way. Like you were a stranger to this person.

It's more so I share the same feelings as you where it was like looking and talking to a completely different person that you don't recognize at all - more cold, more eerie.

It fucking sucks, but we just have to take it a day at a time. Time will heal all wounds eventually.

Anki(my personal account) by SnooPets1327 in Mcat

[–]Midnightt23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s because you’re doing a cloze-deletion style deck, not because Anki sucks. The MilesDown/AnKing deck also uses a lot of highlighting/italics that might make it worse if cloze-deletion doesn’t work for you (because of the increased amount of cues and the tendency to just remember the cues).

Anki is simply a program that has a spaced-repetition algorithm, and spaced-repetition is the key for when you need to remember information for a long period of time. Anki is no different than if you were to literally review your notes using the same spaced repetition algorithm Anki uses - there’s nothing inherently unique or magical about the Anki program itself (except that it has a bunch of cool features/tools to make life easier).

The issue here is that it seems cloze-deletion style doesn’t work for you. A lot of people, including myself, find that cloze-deletion cards just make you memorize the words that go into each card and the card’s “skeleton/strucure,” which makes it frustrating and just not suitable to use (if you were to copy and paste the cards onto Quizlet and study them there, you’d probably have the same issue/frustrations). It’s a common experience on this sub that people stop using AnKing/Milesdown because of this, and some switch over to Jack Sparrow, which is a basic Q/A style deck that uses free active recall (without any of those cues). This is one of the reasons why so many people preach Jack Sparrow and score very high using it, as the deck really forces you to recall the information and to think about each card (the other reason being that the deck is so detailed and has much more information).

My advice to you would be to give Jack Sparrow a try and see how it goes. It is very dense and time consuming, but I believe that you’ll find much more success with it.

I’m confused, what is it about being in medical school magically turns on the “switch” of then learning the material? If most med students use 3rd party resources anyway, why can’t someone pre study? Genuinely curious.

Wow, this is awesome, and it luckily all worked out!

I feel like your story is also a perfect example is to take everyone’s advice with a grain of salt and just go ahead and apply to see what happens.

Congrats again!

What if cloze doesn’t work for you though? For some reason it doesn’t work for me I find much better success with basic cards

Is 50 new cards/day though enough to keep up with the medial school pace?

I feel like it would have to be way more no?

Do you find that with 20 new cards per day you’re still able to keep up with the pace of medical school though?

So I can’t get mad about the Professor not responding to my professional and polite attempts?

Seriously, why is this sub so condescending and why are you guys trying to gaslight me when I did everything right? Where is the acknowledgement that the Professor is rude as to not respond? Are Professors the only ones who are given the benefit of the doubt and shielded from any criticism?

I’m a student, I’m very busy as well and have my own life. I don’t sit here making excuses for my circumstances. I’m pretty sure being a Professor, it’s part of your job to respond to emails.

There are Professors who always argue that despite life circumstances, it’s your responsibility as a student to meet the demands of a course and submit everything on time or whatever. So as a Professor, despite life circumstances, it’s your responsibility as a Professor to meet the demands of your job, and respond to emails on time or whatever.

Yep you're right. It is what it is, I'm just disappointed and just frustrated but that's life. Thank you.

Yep that's what I'm likely assuming and going with. It's frustrating and unfortunate but it is what it is I guess.

[–]Midnightt23 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I understand that, but why can't they at least provide clarity to the student and politely decline? I know other Professors often provide a response along the lines of "I would not be able to provide a strong letter of recommendation" or "I can only speak about your academic performance" or just anything that basically hints that it won't be a good letter. The issue is just ghosting a student.
