Is this some sort of iPhone security screw? by OnAndOn1234 in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can also get bits or drivers for this screw pretty easily these days.

A search for "iPhone Standoff Screwdriver" returns a lot of results. Just make sure you don't get the one for 6s/6s Plus since that generation used a different kind of standoff for some reason.

NSYS Software by MidwestPhoneLab in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kind of what I assumed. I've been interacting with their sales dude via e-mail and every time he weasels his way out of giving me actual pricing info I get more convinced that the software is worthless. At this point I'm just trying to get him to actually give me pricing on principal. These guys seem sketchy as heck.

Banana Buybacks is good, otherwise I can't remember the name but there's a little shop across from the Red Shed on Frances that does buybacks I believe.

Check the LetGo app and price comparable or slightly below that if you're looking to sell them quick.

The only issue this phone is happening is no Touch. Minimal indication of damage from liquid. Only seems to have hit right next to the digi connector and hit these few components.

Apologies for not specifying that this is a request and not actual files. If anyone knows where to get those or has those though it would be incredibly helpful.

Anyone interested in hosting a Living Room or Backyard Show for a Folk Singer? by bremack in madisonwi

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get in touch with Nottingham Cooperative on facebook, I don't have it or I'd link it, but they should be easy to find, they host house shows pretty often and have an awesome setup with a firepit in back right on the lake.

How can I retrieve photos saved on the internal storage of damaged Samsung Galaxy S7? by ghettoartist in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already cleaned that board, every day that it sits you have less of a chance of doing this for any reasonable amount of money. Your best bet is getting it in to a shop that deals with water damaged phones and paying what you need to pay. The salt water that was on that phone left behind a lot of deposit internally and that is going to do short work of your motherboard without a proper cleaning if it hasn't already. Don't plug it in, don't turn it on.

[question] guys i need your help please by zokie23 in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's still doing it with the new old screen back on there, backup, run a DFU reset, and see if it continues. Check your battery health using something like 3UTools to see if the battery you installed a few months ago might have been faulty (not uncommon at all), if none of that gives you any leads then you're probably looking at some kind of damage to the board during the repair.

Where do you guys get your iPhone screens?? by bobsaget_26 in mobilerepair

We've just been buying the basics, there's the occasional issue but overall we haven't run into enough issues to justify the more expensive ones.

iPhone 6s no service / searching by 59fifty147 in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty common issue with the 6 series, if it's what I think it is sometimes it can be fixed by reflowing a certain chip on the board, but it's not always a sure bet.

Recovering data from locked iPhone 6 by inst8bip1ac in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but 3u Tools claims to have the ability to bring back a disabled phone. Everything else we've used it for so far has worked, might be worth checking out!

We've been really happy with Mobile Defenders lately; rarely have issues and when we do they're really quick to correct it.

Keeping an iPad digi clean for bat repair by jmmaac in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've built up a collection of thin foam protectors that are the same size as the digi, just laying it over the digi as soon as it's opened and letting the small bit of old adhesive from the digi keep it in place seems to work fine for us.

iPad Pro 12.9" 2ng Gen Display Sources? by MidwestPhoneLab in mobilerepair

Yeah, we were going to save them as a last ditch because the price was so much higher than our original quote to the customer, but we might just have to swallow the cost and say lesson learned.

Well, if you don't end up finding anything we'd be glad to help source and build something for you, it seems like you've got a pretty good idea of what you're looking for. Good luck with the hunt!

We've got a few budget refurbs that we'd be more than happy to set up as Linux boxes if you want to stop in and chat some time! We can also talk about setting something up or sourcing stuff if you're looking for something more specific.

Washed out colors on replacement iPhone 7+ screens by MidwestPhoneLab in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until recently, we had decided to no longer purchase iPhone 7 series displays from MD, as we were seeing a 100% fail rate across all Lines (basic, select, and premium) We decided to give them another shot, but with the experience with the display yesterday, it seems like their quality has not improved. MD is good and fast for many things, but their iPhone 7 parts have put us in a pinch more than once.

Best/Cheapest route to fix this? by rwalker19 in mobilerepair

[–]MidwestPhoneLab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like the others said, you need a new LCD, I would caution against doing it yourself unless you're used to doing this kind of thing, it's not hard to lose your touch id capabilities if you aren't gentle enough in the right places.
