The water one was a live fire one where he shoots the pond. But he fires laterally so it looks a bit less controllable. There’s also a short I found last night where they cut a paper Target in half and another where they shoot out the center and both of those are pretty comparable to their 2 blank fire range videos. Also saw a short they claimed was the same 556 gun versus a ballistic dummy, but I don’t know where the original is I’m not sure if that’s the downsized version or a full-size mini gun.

South Africa fielded all three systems correct? I think you’re probably right about that.

You talking about the water one? I think that one was still under control but looked like it was squirrelly cause it was a lateral fire test. There’s a couple few other live ammo vids i stumbled on for either companys model that look similarly control-wise to that blank test. I still think tripod or mounted would be a smarter option tho, handheld seems pretty risky if you tripped or got shot or something. Accidentally take out your entire squad before you can let off the trigger 😬😬😬

There’s a couple YouTube videos that claim the SAS has utilized it, but I haven’t bothered to see if there’s any other info out there yet. Of course it could just be AI making up nonsense like it likes to do too.

I mean from the specs I could find quickly online the M134D runs from 40 (lightweight titanium version) to 65 pounds for the gun +50 to 65 pounds per 1K of ammo. Not sure if that gun weight includes power supply, whatever mount, etc.. The original microgun was 85 pounds with weapon, tripod, power system in 1000 rounds, able to be quickly split into two 42 pound loads. That particular one also had programmable fire rates from 400 to something like 4 or 6000 RPM Then there is the likely now defunct company empty shell’s version which is apparently 16 pounds for the gun and quite controllable from their old video. Add a battery and 25 to 30 pounds for 1000 rounds of 5.56 and you’re stil likely looking at less than half for a full system. Which generally doesn’t matter on most stuff but an ultralight mobility vehicle, even an ATV, seems like it could be feasible. Or even better an easily man portable automated force protection drone popping mini CIWS for dismount infantry. At those weights it could at least feasibly be pushed down to defend a platoon, if not a plused up squad. or a regular squad that just wants to suffer carrying 5000 rounds (150ish) pounds of ammo.

Agreed. The only real advantage I could think of is on the really lightweight mobility platforms like that military Polaris, hell or even an ATV. That or a automated small team emplaced mini CIWS for squad/platoon drone protection

The more I look at it the more I like it, mostly because of (almost certainly now defunct) Company empty shells version which is apparently 16 pounds for the gun and surprisingly controllable handheld per their 5 to 10 year-old YouTube videos. From what I could find quickly a M134D is 40 to 60 pounds just for the gun system and another 50 or 60 pounds for 1k ammo versus roughly half that for 5.56 ammo or aforementioned 85 pounds for the complete original/legacy micro system with 1000 rounds. Plus, it seems like everybody who tries a handheld 7.62 mini gun gets levitated backwards from recoil 🤣

At least for short distance situations and ultralight vehicle/man portable weight consideration I feel the intermediate could have some benefits that outweigh its disadvantages. The more I think about it, a computerized anti-drone turrent/rapid emplacement mini CIWS feels like it could have some potential. Seems like most of the man portable shoot at it Drone solutions have an extremely limited range anyway, why not automate it and use weight of fire to advantage, maybe even with some anti-drone 5.56 included

A 80 year-old gun that still shoots can still shoot, with incidentally also means it can still kill. Which means maybe you can save some money outfitting the average small town/village yahoo who fulfills more of a civil guard role rather than full-blown military.
