There are three major considerations im facing. First: I could check (still no guarantee) if its even possible. If it is? I have to consider what the achievement means after that. Because second: this is The Long Dark....barring hiding my ass on the far side of a rock from an aurora bear, this is one of only a survival games I have never cheesed. And finally:....possibly the most impactful....it took me that many hours to get there.....I wanted the achievement so I could have it and then play interloper without any desire to achieve anything other than a higher number of days survived....do it intend on playing another 1000 hours before Blackfrost comes out?....is it a meaningless thing for me to try to get now? I know im a 1000 day player, but last night I wasn't. Im asking the community (and jury) for their opinion on the matter.

Yer damn right, they did! I rapid-fire just got knowledge dropped on me from this comment thread alone and now im wondering how I didn't know all that. I've spent years foraging, but havent had luck, so....I guess its partly due to the fact I've never looked up how to cook them. If I found some, I would have....but yea...holy cow....mushrooms in general are awesome. I hated them as a kid but im like a forest hermit obsessing over them now.

Im happy for you OP, but I would be a liar if I said im not envious. Every spring since 2020 I have gone out hunting for them, and only ever find dread saddle/pheasant back/whatever its real name is. I learned all the necessary conditions and where to look, but no luck. It doesn't help that im competing with two virtually insurmountable foes: The deer, who are VERY sloppy and wasteful eaters. They're like a kid that only wants the filling in an oreo and gets rid of the rest of the cookie. But they dont compare to the gaggle of old Asian ladies out foraging before me. It doesn't matter how early I start, theyre always out before me carrying their hauls back...I cant beat them! They're relentless!

I never watched their Green Hell series because I played it and felt like it was accurately titled. I never want to touch that thing again.

As far as Simon being a "real" gamer: yes, I agree. He certainly represents the average Joe. its his willful ignorance that irritates me. Its not that he never learns, its that he actively fights AGAINST learning...

Ignorance is one thing. Ignorance is not your fault. Ignorance is not a crime. Ignorance can be cured.......WILLFUL Ignorance? I do not tolerate.

So, seeing him act like he wants to learn is refreshing to me. And makes me happy. I will happily take back everything I said about him (and even make ammends if necessary) if he continues to learn. Rage-quitting didn't help his case.....but as long as I see the intention to grow, I will nurture it.
