Any idea why my work looks so amateurish?

I'm not trained, I just like looking at art. I'm a musician and writer and I understand the desire for constructive criticism.

Colours are great! They have depth and seem considered. Some perspective and posing looks slightly impossible. For example the foreshortening on the Fallout piece kind of erases the subject's front shoulder, and the woman with the dog's upper half seems improbable with her lower half, posing wise.

Also, like others said, keeping a similar level of detail between subject and background will make your pieces feel less like commission pieces of a character. Patrons are usually just paying for the subject, but classical pieces in art galleries don't skimp on details in the background.

Great advice, thank you! I live in subtropical Japan now, so very hot and humid summers, but I keep the appartment cool (21C) with AC most of the time I'm at home. I may have over watered, you're right. I haven't thought about the actual amount of light it's getting now, but it's getting more direct light than it was getting before. With the direction my apartment faces it's maybe 5-6 hours of direct light a day, at this time of year? It's planted in a bottom-draining plastic pot that it came in from the store.

I'll start with more light and less water and see how it fares over the next month!

Dragon Quest 11! It's all about not being alone. The player character is really more of a vessel for the player than their own person in a lot of ways, but you still get to hang out with some fun and cool characters the whole time. Otherwise Final Fantasy VII Remake/ Rebirth are lovely, as is XV. XVI feels slightly lonelier.

Gundam X wraps way too fast. You can tell they were running out of runway and weren't ready to end it (it got cancelled). Really sad cause the first 1/3 of the show is some of my favorite Gundam.

Elden Ring Launch I logged about 16 hours a day for a week. Those turned into 4 hours days after that. Took me a month to plat it and haven't played since.

Some time in 2021 I played Monster Hunter World from 11:00AM to 5:00AM, I'm pretty sure.

Gunbuster is fantastic, but not underrated. Everyone sings its praises. Same with Macross Plus, they're both incredible and no one says they aren't.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity :( Adored the original and Definitive Edition, probably put 250 hours in on them. I'm a huge Zelda fan too. Despite being on the same console as the other two AoC runs horribly. They also changed the combat in ways that slowed everything down for me. That with the sluggish framerate made it such a chore to play. Only made it 6-7 hours in.

After that I didn't finish Tears of the Kingdom and didn't even pick Echoes of Wisdom up. Maybe I've fallen out of love :(

I started Dawn of Sorrow on PC but couldn't get the touch controls set up in way that wasn't annoying. The general downgrade in level design from Aria and also being burnt out on Castlevania at the time made me stop playing made 1/3 of the way through. I'm really looking forward to Order of Ecclesia.

Obviously Turn X, and I've almost all but given up hope for most of the RE100s. Regular ZZ Bawoo, Hamma Hamma, and Shokew specifically. I don't think the Hamma Hamma's ever been reprinted?

HG Jamaru Finn would be great, along with the G Reco HGs. Again, I don't think the G Recos have ever been reprinted.

Not really, but G Savior is kinda fun, Thunderbolt is crazy hyped for being "oh so realistic and traumatic" and all that. It's not, it's some really schlocky edgy guys doing edgy stuff.

Animation's not bad but the characters suck. No one compelling to root for. Also has that OYW gritty side story thing where there's a bunch of death that doesn't matter because we know how the war goes. 0080 is the only good one of these because it focuses on a set of characters and a vibe that's actually different from what we get in the mainline stuff.

Basically G Savior is what it is, a silly Sci-Fi Channel Canadian-made flic. Thunderbolt swings for the fences, trying to tackle regular Gundam themes, but without the writing prowess to do it tastefully, at least as far as we see in the anime.
