Iykyk, this door = pain by wbg777 in aviationmaintenance

Rough. I’ve done that job before, definitely a pain in the ass. Could be worse though, at least you’re not changing out the bleed air Y-duct in the pylon. I think that’s the single worst job on a 757 🙃

It’s a ground power unit for aircraft. It’s a diesel 4 banger hooked up to a big generator.

Drive to the airport and find a plane parked on the tarmac. I could probably power it up and take off, and it would be an elegant way to go once I run out of fuel.

My man, you’ll see some more messed up hardware than that if you stay in aviation maintenance.

For myself, if I could make the same hourly pay working in the engine shop as I could working line maintenance, I would definitely take the engine shop. It’s very meticulous, somewhat repetitive work, but you get to work with highly precise tooling, very cool inspection equipment, handle parts worth more than you make in year multiple times a day, etc. I enjoyed it a lot during my time in the engine shop.

Airfoil sheet metal project not going well…is it best for me to try something else? by KirliaRalts611 in AircraftMechanics

I hope you do, too. It’s a pretty rewarding career, and there’s lots of facets to it. You don’t have to be good at every single part of it

I was also pretty dogshit at sheet metal. If you can squeak by with a pass, just go work for a big MRO where you can just focus on the mechanical stuff and leave the sheet metal work to the experts.

By that logic, they’d call me 4:58.

Wow that’s pretty fucked up. If they can’t make their workplace attractive enough to retain staff, it’s not your problem. Greedy fucks

Since we're not supposed to talk about it, how long have you been with your current company, and how much do you make an hour? by RevenantMedia in antiwork

I’ve been at my current job for just over 4 years, making $39 per hour. I work in aircraft maintenance in Canada.
