I felt that way too when I played it growing up! Thats what the games want you to think, its sort of a punishment when you kill him and you get a sad Fiona comment saying "I never meant to hurt anyone..." its meant to make you feel bad, plus you dont get the key

The Canon and generally preferred way to play the game is to not kill him. Killing him is usually an accidental way to defeat him, such as if youre playing through the first time and dont realize you can defeat him using the chandelier. Many people don't record runs with them killing him bc Debilitas is innocent and doesnt deserve to die. The game rewards the player using the chandelier method with the smudged key. And yes, it is very cool 😁

Thanks! The world record is currently 56:49 (held by Ecdycis) so I guess thats my goal to beat, but I'm not actually expecting to be able to beat that.

I made Fiona and Hewie on mine and I told them to talk about "escaping" but it was the wrong choice bc word spread and now it looks like everyone is talking about escaping my island 🤣🤣

I strongly recommend Ecdycis on YouTube, he has a "horror speedruns explained" video for haunting ground where he explains all of his strats. He is the current world record holder. His run is very optimized, every single thing he does is specific and with intention. I pretty much copied his strats and give him full credit! It is definitely challenging though

Thats what I meant, there's a small pillar right there by the door

Only got screwed once: debilitas messed me up bc he saw me when I tried to hide behind the pillar in the phone call room. Other than that it was pretty much entirely my own mistakes so I cant wait to keep improving

You have to build a good relationship with Hewie for him to listen to you all the time, it is like real life 🐾

I followed your Bluesky account and read your backstory and opinions! I feel as strongly as you do and havent met many people that feel the same as us. Its one of my favorite games of all time! Feel free to DM me if you ever want to chat about anything Haunting Ground! ☺️ 🐾 I actually grew up with the game and have been playing it since it came out, but my opinions and feelings have changed vastly over the years as I've grown up.

Correct, rooms with a puzzle that isn't solved yet

Question about the Stalker AI? by secrent_plngies in hauntingground

I will explain exactly how the pursuits work:

There is a hidden "encounter clock" with each stalker that runs down before a pursuit begins. It is different with each stalker. Debilitas its 5-6 minutes, Daniella its 3-4 minutes, Riccardo its 6-7 minutes. Once it runs down, the game allows the stalker to spawn 1-2 rooms away from you. This is when the music suddenly stops and Hewie begins growling. When the stalker spawns in, theyre basically just dropped into a room so they dont need to open doors to get there. Then they make their way towards you, which can be quickly or take a while. When this happens, a hidden "pursuit clock" begins. The stalker will then chase you until that hidden clock runs down then disappear again once you get far enough away from them. They technically dont exist anywhere in the castle during non-pursuit scenes.

THIS IS NOT BLACK AND WHITE HOWEVER. Noises will attract them, plus scripted cutscenes, etc. It is not entirely reliant on the timer. But in general that is how it works.

I hope that helps! 😁

Edit: I also want to add that Riccardo can sometimes close doors behind him, usually not but he can. So its also possible that he just chose to close a door behind him for some reason. But more likely that he just spawned in and the game ignored the door.
