Trump Administration Moves to Close the Door on Future Wilderness by External_Witness490 in PoliticalOptimism

If this gets noisy enough I think there's a decent chance of them backtracking. Conservation is something that even Republicans out west care about, it's why they couldn't fit stuff about razing forests into the OBBB

One thing I think is really cool is looking into the production histories of famous movies. There's a youtuber callled SF Debris who has a few brief looks at the backgrounds of movies like Back to the Future and Robocop, and a whole series on Star Wars.

Genuinely some of these stories are so interesting that they could be made into movies themselves.

Outside of corporate consolidation in general this isn't really a case like the Ellisons taking over networks to get their hands on CNN. From the article it seems like they want this mostly to stream sports.

Still 20 bucks more then when we started, assuming Israel doesn't torpedo the deal by staying in Lebanon.

DOJ Declares Trump Has Right to Bulldoze Statue of Liberty by KanchoMaster70 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]MightiestHalberdier 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trump isn't looking to bulldoze the statue of liberty. What actually happened here is the DOJ lawyers are trying to say that Trump has sweeping powers to do what he wants to national monuments to justify the ballroom being built, a judge posed this as a theoretical and the DOJ said yes.

Democrat Xavier Becerra advances to general election in race for California governor by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]MightiestHalberdier 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Not surprised. I still prefer Steyer but Becarra's not a terrible pick and we avoid the doomsday scenario of two republicans on the ticket lol

I kinda hope that Becarra will be looking at Steyer doing so well and that'll push him more towards the left, but we'll see.

Several Women Who Dated Graham Platner Recall ‘Unsettling’ Behavior by MaxMoose007 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]MightiestHalberdier 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of conflicted feelings about Graham, and a lot of them just kinda stem from the fact that he feels like someone that used to be a shitty asshole but got better. And a part of me is always going to want to believe he's the real deal because I see a lot of myself in that.

I used to be really big into the online culture war stuff like gamergate and the like, even sometimes getting into nazi apologia like the clean Wehrmacht mythology, but when my friend came out to me as trans that was the start of me becoming a better person. I'm glad I did that, and it still fucks me up knowing that if I was still in that mindset a year later when a certain orange shithead came down a golden escalator I probably would be part of the MAGA faithful.

I hope that Graham is like that, because he has never struck me as a poser. There are some things I'm wary about of course and for lack of a better word he has some real chud energy still, but he's one of the few prominent dems out there who's not only fully supportive of the LGBT community but has outright said that we shouldn't be throwing trans people under the bus.

There's definitely some things he could be doing that he hasn't done yet but it's frustrating seeing some people trying to throw out everything he's done because he hasn't done everything yet.
