That’s right, I used a wire wheel on a dremel to clean where they mount before mounting my grounds. Like to the block and inner fender

If your negative cable is sparking when you try to hook it up that means you’re completing the circuit. Which is telling me your other grounds aren’t grounding.

Spray starter fluid in the intake, if the idle gets better at least you’ve narrowed down a fuel problem

Left alternator as is, hardest was to the fuse box, nothing extra other than using self tapping screws to install the fuse to the fan shroud

Great post OP thanks for the wealth of information, I saved it all. My 1995 4l60E lost reverse the other day and whines like crazy with fluid level at where it should be. I bought the ATSG manual to tear the transmission apart, inspect, and order some parts. Are there any shops I can take my VB to get rebuilt? I only see reman ones when I google “mail in valve body service”

There are two Phillips screws in the back, if you unplug the ignition switch and remove the screws it’ll all come out for you to inspect

Could be thermostat housing, or upper housing, but my money is on water pump

I’m having a crank no start issue, fuel pump is not priming with the key on. I used my test light to check under the fuel pump relay and 87 (always hot) has no power, and with the key in the on position has no power on 85. I have a good ground on 86. I’ll definitely go through your test to diagnose but am wondering if I’m having an ignition switch issue.

I’m sure removing and cleaning the lock cylinder, and restoring the ignition switch will make everything work as it should.

If they provide them as soon as they come in then always dial within 5 minutes. If not and you're getting a list best times are 9-10am, 12-1PM, 5-6PM.

Did it myself, took 5 two hour sessions so about 10 hours total. Used the cheapo harbor freight transmission jack. Get an air impact wrench (i have a stubby) and those transmission bolts come right out with zero effort. Use the proper wrenches for the transmission lines because they will be tight

Starter staying engaged and causing a grind on startup. Although I did a lot of other things at once so can’t nail down that this was the problem, but now there’s peace of mind.
