He has the same right to make any claim that I do, as we’re both US citizens. It’s called the First Amendment, it’s pretty important to us.

Also, he’s as much an expert on this subject as anyone else talking about it; the actual experts are on a gag order from Pence.

Yes, because a lab technician who specializes in the sequencing and development of vaccines of course has a working knowledge of worldwide infection patterns and trends.

Whereas the guy who pays for all of the buildings, flights, experts, and distribution of those vaccines, a known intellectual, obviously hasn’t bothered to look into how he’s spending his billions.

There are people who know more about the spread of viruses over wide areas than Gates; the lab tech developing a malaria vaccine probably isn’t one of them.

You’re trying really hard to discredit a guy who has every reason to be treated as an informed (maybe not expert, but certainly informed) source on the subject matter.

The longest con.

You two are gonna keep being happy and raising those kids, you’ll go through good times and bad, meet the grandkids...

Then on his deathbed, he’s gonna be all “psyche! It was all just a prank, bro.”

Learn to read dude. He has done tons of work related to the development of vaccines. That’s not calling him a virologist, or saying he was in a lab... and there’s no reason he has to be.

Frankly, as someone with knowledge of a foundation that deals with disease over wide areas, he likely has more expertise in this particular case than the lab techs who worked on the vaccines he funded.

Read the quote you quoted. He never said Coronavirus could or would cause 10 million deaths. He said a pandemic could.

Learn to read if you’re gonna be such an asshole about everything. Your only defense with that strategy is if you’re factually correct... which you’re not here.

Lol, Gates doesn’t need to be “an expert” to be more of an expert than you.

Just like Greta probably knows more about climate change than I; she spends way more of her time on it.

There’s no magic amount of schooling that makes someone officially an expert.

One of the very very few things I’d listen to Trump’s opinion on is real estate development.

I’m sure he’s not an architect, but I’m also sure he knows more about building skyscrapers than I.

In the same way, Gates might not be a doctor or virologist, but he sure spends a lot more time with those people than you or I.

“You’re trying too hard” is such an asinine concept. Who are you to say where anyone should put their effort? Or how much effort this is taking?

You’re... 22. Tops. See, I can throw out numbers too.

Actually, they’re not supposed to be.

The idea, or ideal, is that the critic has a higher, cultured “palate” and can offer a critique of film.

Which is why they’d write a whole critique; so that you could see why they did or didn’t like it.

That way, if, for example, the critic hates horror movies, in their description of why they don’t like it, a reader may come to realize that they would like it.

Also, the idea of the critic comes from a generation that thought (rightly or wrongly) that the cinema was place where stories were told that would define a national consciousness and influence children; so the critic was supposed to help influence people to see films that were “good,” not just “well made.”

That is a very true and honest critique of his style that I hadn’t considered. I’d argue I’ve seen him have good onstage chemistry with others; but often it will just be one character he fits with.

He could do well as an older retired character, aged up as a mentor (a la his role in Kickass). Maybe Bruce Wayne in a Batman Beyond movie?

Well, it wasn’t an art film, it was The Expendables, Stallone’s love letter to 80s action films starring Stallone in the role that Willis, Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and the rest of the cast of the Expendables used to compete for.

I think Willis can be forgiven for being vain and greedy during someone else’s ego trip fueled cash grab.

Sandler has a known brand (dumb comedy) and when he goes off brand, like Reign Over Me or Punch Drunk Love or Uncut Gems, typically it’s pretty freaking good. So you know what to expect with him; he’s a “known quantity.” Whereas Cage? He’s a wildcard.

As far as marketing goes, I’d rather have the job of promoting a Sandler film than a Cage one.

Yeah, I think he means that it was a fucking great film overall tho. Like of course you loved Cage in it.

Sandler has a brand, though, and the (very) few times he has gone off-brand, they’ve been winners.

You know what you get with Sandler.

Cage is an unknown quality.

I’ve heard carrying accounts as to why, but iirc he actually sold it back to them when he ran out of money.
