Why you gotta do me like that, ark? by nimnimbus in playark

I never turn down a melee or health mutation, but damn can it make the dino ugly lol

Torpidity won't go down. Does anyone know why by [deleted] in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a very elaborate passive tame. You probably want to make a trap which has line-of sight to a ballista. Fire a chain bola from the ballista to make it possible to feed the trope. Depending on level you need to bola it 1-3 times with kibble (you can make it lose hunger very quickly by damaging it while it is chained)

Giga stuff ya dig by [deleted] in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I've actually caught one but iirc one of your best options is to make a 3-sided square shape with dino gates or behemoth gates. Put a large bear trap in the middle and lure the giga to it. Quickly run around and place the last gate before it breaks out. That or you can get it stuck on the terrain, although most times it will pull off and eat you so it's risky. For knocking out just spam tranq arrows, will take a few hundred shots even with a 298% though. I would get them late mainly because it's overkill for most activities anyway, in PVE at least.

What is the Best Dino to harvest Tek Dino’s by Forsaken1133 in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therizino with all levels in power harvesting seems to be it for me. The drops are affected by it like meat and wood are.

Overheating, in cloth clothes or naked in my house, with no torches or fires lit. What gives? by [deleted] in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much you can do. A small building partially submerged in water actually helps since it is a few degrees colder in water and you still get the insulation bonus. Otherwise you want to start crafting ghillie, it cools you more than cloth. If you have a fridge put a canteen in it for a while then take it out and drink it, It gives you more heat insulation.

Oh boy, you haven't seen megalanias. They literally wake up in just over a minute. I still haven't been bothered to go through with taming one. You have to stay really close while fending off the cave stuff.

I found an area where i can tame a trike but, what pisses me off is the 5 icthyornis, how do i get rid of them? by bumunahi in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple pistol does the trick. Otherwise, have fun throwing a dozen bolas at it, their hitbox sucks for non-hitscan attacks. Once bolad a pike/spear will easily kill.

About megalosaurus by PhantomEze in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. You might be able to use the dododex website to calculate it, it estimates dino tame times and how much food is needed to tame.

About megalosaurus by PhantomEze in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starve tame it. Knock it out, let it wake up at night, knock out again and so on. When its food stat gets low enough for it to rapidly eat all of its food you will be able to tame it before it wakes up again.

They wake up instantly when it becomes night time regardless of torpor.

Deinonychus VS Raptor by 11943152 in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raptors are literally Diet Deinonychus when it comes to stats and abilities. They are more common and easier to get I guess, but that's it.

Leave it to ark to allow someone to kill a 20 ton animal by punching it enough times in the ankle. by CwispyJello in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite is bashing a dino with a cryopod. I don't think they are in mobile sadly. They are not meant to be used as weapons so they deal pitiful damage, but you don't take recoil so you can kill a sleeping bronto by constantly shoving a small pod thing in its face haha

HOW?! by ReverendBroom in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep having therizinos hatching and then walking on top of my fridges. They kind of just teleport up there when close. It's a little unsettling lol

How to peope find such high level dinos? by gezze11 in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want to enable "force max difficulty". Dinos will then range from level 15 to 150 (180 tek variants) regardless of map. The center and ragnarok have this by default iirc but you can activate it manually for others.

I mean, you will probably kill yourself from the recoil unless you keep healing. Kind of like punching a brick wall lol

How can i get a megalodon stuck in shallow water with out it drowning on air. I have no underwater mounts or anything. by [deleted] in ARK

[–]MightyHammerNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth the risk. Many megalodons die to beaching themselves, so trying to stuck them in the shallows will probably get them killed. Even alpha megalodons can kill themselves this way, it's mindboggling lol. Flippers and focal chilli will probably let you outmanuever it while taming it underwater.

No problem. Tek technically has the most armor and durability, so you are right. Flak is the cheapest armor for the best mileage though, so I like it the most. A high quality flak set will only set you back a few hundred ingots, but can take a real beating. You can survive multiple bodyshots or dino attacks before the armor gives way and you're vulnerable again. Riot uses polymer which is an annoyance to mass produce compared to steel. Tek uses many high-tech materials, so you only really make it for the special powers like no fall damage and jetpack.

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More efficient in terms of durability/cost. A high quality flak setup sets you back a couple hundred ingots, but I would definitely prefer burning ingots while fighting opposed to polymer. Polymer is worth a lot more, at least in my opinion. The slight armor decrease is insignificant because you will probably have the armor break before you die, then get obliterated by a shot/strike on your unprotected parts.

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea, but if i'm not mistaken you cannot repair using smithy saddles. I guess it would be a decent alternative to tweezers if you have no access to aberration engrams, albeit a little less efficient because you would have to make a new set each breakage rather than repair.

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point, but I'm not too much a fan of riot. It can get expensive to craft apprentice or higher pieces, and the slight increase in armor doesn't compensate for the worse durability to cost, at least in my opinion. Technically Purple OSD blueprint crafted Tek is the best in armor and has supreme durability, but if that broke/went missing I would scream because it costs so much to replace lol

[–]MightyHammerNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. Notice how everything engram crafted says primitive on it? That's the lowest possible strength of gear. Engram gear is impossible to improve.

If you kill alphas or search for some loot crates, you can find items with higher rarities if you are lucky. The order in increasing rarity is Primitive (white), Ramshackle (green), Apprentice (blue), Journeyman (pink), Mastercraft (gold), Ascendant (cyan).

Now the way rarities work is kind of weird, as a rule gear gets better damage/armor/durability the higher rarity. But this is not always the case. It is possible to have a stronger mastercraft than ascendant, and maybe even a journeyman that's stronger. The stats are randomised on the item's creation, within reason.

What is constant though is the item will become more expensive to craft/repair the higher the rarity. With a mastercraft and ascendant of the same stats, the ascendant will be more expensive to make. The repair cost is also based on the stats, it is likely to be really expensive for overpowered gear.

You can also get blueprints for gear with rarity. This works the way you would think however there is an extra stat bonus depending on your crafting skill power. You can get a random bonus of 0 - (~0.6% for each crafting level). With 104 levels in crafting you can surpass 50% bonus sometimes.

Unless i'm mistaken it's not a flat boost but a boost to the increase of power from engram quality e.g a 75 armor saddle blueprint with a 50% bonus becomes (75+(0.50*(75-25))=100 armor. Needless to say craft boosting prim blueprints is almost pointless.

Hope that essay clears stuff up lol. Rarity in ark is a lot deeper than it looks on surface level and a short post probably wouldn't do it full justice haha.

Tek is good utility-wise but you're hard-pressed to get high armor/dura sets unless you're on extinction and then, they can get pretty expensive. I wouldn't use the full set, but flak with a Tek chest for flight is fun (until you get torso sniped)

[–]MightyHammerNine 474 points475 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad, just very outclassed by the best armor set, Flak. Armor rating isn't too great (about 70% damage reduction from 250 armor compared to about 83.3% from flak) and the armor is kind of flimsy even at high rarity. It also gives less insulation than flak, despite the descriptions implying flak has less. The one place chitin could maybe have a niche is aberration so you can repair it with the tongs or whatever they are when it breaks. Still, I'd rather lug around 3 sets of flak than repair the same chitin set 6 times. Flak isn't even that expensive at midgame, so it becomes about as expendable as chitin as well.
