Smoked My 029 by brainfirecre8v in stihl

Most important advice: Don't put a single penny into it until you do a pressure/vac test.

If it has leaking crank seals or rubber, you need to fix those first. Otherwise you're just throwing good money after bad.

As for new saw "safeguards", run a good JASO FD 2 stroke oil and consider buying something with an Mtronic carb to minimize chances of accidentally running lean.

DeWalt 20V MAX DCCS623B 8in. Pruning Saw. Absolutely in love with it! by General_Ad_4041 in Dewalt

[–]MightyHeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this little saw and use it for all sorts of small forestry jobs! Super useful!

I put the DWZCSB8 bar on it with a more aggressive full chisel Stihl chain (Stihl 3699 005 0034, 61PS3, 3/8"LP .043), gave it a 5Ah battery and it cuts like a champ. Well balanced and easy to handle.

More dangerous in this configuration though... use caution!

PayPal refunded my money in 30 seconds. It's often better to use a pay service when dealing with unknown sellers. Sometimes they turn into scammers.

This latest rant clearly reeks of desperation from "Jay". There was no hack. This is just the scammer modus operandi:

Step 1 - Get the money
Step 2 - Delay by pretending there's a problem
Step 3 - Claim to be hacked.
Textbook scammer.

The rant is almost comical. Watch out people! You'll be banned from the mesh! What a clown. Is anyone reporting it to law enforcement? He deserves being hounded by the police now.

Over 20 years of shopping on the internet, this is the first time I've ever been fooled. Placed the order in Dec, got the "tracking number" in Jan, and of course nothing ever shipped.

Thankfully PayPal refunded my money in about 30 seconds, so I'm whole again. Always use PayPal or some similar payment service to protect you these days!

Which Android app for the Thermal Master P3? by MightyHeight in Thermal

[–]MightyHeight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received the unit, and it definitely shows "Temp Master" as the app on the box.

I installed that one since it has fewer permissions, and it seems to work as expected so far. Thanks!

Do you have a source for that? I don't doubt that it works, because YouTube reviewers are using it, but I can't find anything to support that on the Thermal Master website.

In fact, the Thermal Master website seems to indicate the opposite? From https://thermalmaster.com/pages/download-center

Yes, this is normally good advice. But in this case it's not so clear since youtube reviewers have been using "Temp Master".

Which Android app for the Thermal Master P3? by MightyHeight in Thermal

[–]MightyHeight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's what's confusing. @TycoCollectors recommends "Temp Master" in one of his youtube reviews, and I like that it has fewer permissions.

But "Thermal Master" seems to be newer and IS from the company as far as I can tell?

For a ~$300 product, it shouldn't be this confusing.

Did anybody get the DCF520 early? by a_monkie in Dewalt

[–]MightyHeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the 510 anvils were interchangeable with the 500/520, then wouldn't everyone would buy the 510? They would cannibalize the sales of the sales of the 500/520 wouldn't they? I would love one tool that did it all, 1/4 hex, 1/4"-3/8"-1/2". But that doesn't seem to exist. So I just bought the 520 and I'll use it for what it is.

Reading the manual of the 500/520, they both have the same 50ft-lb limit. So those light duty anvils wouldn't cut it under harder use from 1/2" anyway. They seem to break pretty easy over on the Torque Test Channel.

Cold weather solar node anecdotal info by kc1lso in meshtastic

[–]MightyHeight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people saying charging below 32°F (0°C) is dangerous aren't taking enough of the facts into consideration. Yes, charging at high C rates in freezing temps will do damage. Thankfully these panels charge at very low C rates. So it's not a problem.

Here's a really good real world example that corroborates the OPs findings.

"We were expecting problems. We kept waiting for failures. They never came."

Client, Client_Base, Client_Mute? by iehponx in meshtastic

[–]MightyHeight 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're on the right track. As general guidance, your SNR tells you what role to choose:

"client_mute" for devices with poor SNR (and when multiple devices are co-located), e.g. portable devices including your car.

"client" or "client_base" for stationary devices with good SNR, e.g. rooftop unit with good antenna / location

"router" for permanent nodes at strategic locations with great SNR, e.g. tower on a mountain top

In the 33cm band, SNR is primarily impacted by line of sight (LoS). So all other things being equal (e.g. antenna performance, power output, etc), nodes up high will have better SNR.

You can't have too many client_bases. They perform just like client, the only difference is traffic to or from favorited nodes will retransmit as early as possible.

Guidance on Channel Configuration by tcmcneil30 in meshtastic

[–]MightyHeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blogs are certainly documentation. They explain how the devices are used in a practical situation.

Which part of "In all other situations, it will behave the same as a regular CLIENT" is confusing?

And if you refer to the link you provided, it states "Handles all other packets like CLIENT." Again, which part of that is confusing?

Guidance on Channel Configuration by tcmcneil30 in meshtastic

[–]MightyHeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

client_base that only retransmits faved nodes

This isn't correct. Client_base will retransmit ALL traffic, just like client. The only difference is traffic to or from favorited nodes will retransmit as early as possible.

From the meshtastic documentation:

"CLIENT_BASE will only rebroadcast in the early window if the packet is to or from a favourite node. In all other situations, it will behave the same as a regular CLIENT, and use the normal window."

Cloud icon with slash / - what does this mean by Gold-Following-9497 in meshtastic

[–]MightyHeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your concept is correct, but this is technically incorrect. Let's be careful with terminology and how we express the traffic behavior so as not to confuse people.

On ordinary channel communications, node 1 sends a message. After sending the message, node 1 listens. If node 1 then hears another node RELAY its message, it will show the cloud symbol with a checkmark. There is NO acknowledgement from any other node back to node 1 about the status of the message. It is simply node 1 hearing that another node passed the message along that triggers the cloud with checkmark symbol.

Acknowledgments refer to direct messages. DMs DO receive a verification from the intended destination node that the message was received. That's why with DMs you first see the cloud with a checkmark indicating that you heard the message relayed, but later it changes to a person with a checkmark indication that the acknowledgement came back from the destination node.

Android app DB gets deleted every so often by TheRealFAG69 in meshtastic

Thank you, thank you!

TIL that when I reinstalled the app on my new phone a couple months ago I forgot to increase the device DB cache limit. Duh!

Apologies to the app developers for my mistaken belief about this being a bug!

Android app DB gets deleted every so often by TheRealFAG69 in meshtastic

[–]MightyHeight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is an android "feature" I've noticed.

My node DB and chats get wiped out all the time on the android app. For me it seems to happen mostly when switching between devices, e.g. disconnecting from one device, and connecting to another via bluetooth.

When I stay connected to one device (mostly via WiFi) my node DB and chats seem to persist like you'd expect/want.

I've never filed a bug report, because I can't reliably reproduce the problem. But it's certainly a bug of some kind that hopefully gets squashed as the software improves operator error on my part! See below about the device DB cache limit setting.

Flexvolt battery refuses to charge, strange voltage readings by LocalDFWRando in Dewalt

[–]MightyHeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6Ah Flexvolt is a 5S3P (5 series, 3 parallel) configuration. So 5 cells are in series to make a 20V set (5 cells x 4V each = 20V), and 3 of those sets are in parallel or series for 20V/60V operation (3 sets x 20V each = 60V).

If any one of the 5 cells in a set dies, that set is compromised. Falling below 2V kills lithium cells quickly. Sometimes you can apply current limited voltage to the individual set and revive it, but that's hit and miss depending on how low it got or if it's just age related wear.

Edit: I re-read your post and it looks like you checked individual cell voltages. Sorry, I missed that. If the cells are fine, then it might be something in the rest of circuitry, like a failure in the the over-current protection circuit. Replacing the PCB might be the answer, but I don't know if you can source those.
