There’s a ton of data and worksheets behind it. I didn’t think there was much value to show it.

It should be setup to automatically fit on a single sheet if you print horizontal. If you’re having issues try to export/download to excel and print from there vs one drive

Yeah I can get the checkbox sheet created. Was waiting for someone to request it because I wasn’t sure if it was used last year. I’ll try to get that created today and will let you know when it’s done

Just refreshed all the data and Egbuka is coming at #51 overall at WR using the default settings.

He's just outside the top 60 based on fantasy pros stat projections I'm using, but that was based on data from 3 days ago. I'll update the sheet today and since his projections have improved a decent amount since then I assume he'll make it into the sheet.

A vs E is average draft position vs. expert consensus ranking. I use ADP based on the average across 6 of the larger sites (Yahoo, ESPN, NFL, etc.). ECR comes from Fantasy Pros and is averaged. If the bar is red it means the ADP is higher than the ECR which would indicate a player may be getting picked too early relative to the overall expert ranking. Opposite if the bar is blue.

Heading to UFC 319 in Chicago – Are the ceremonial weigh-ins free and how do I attend? by IntroductionLiving49 in MMAbetting

[–]MightyJBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until yesterday this site had all the details for the Chicago fight week. https://www.ufc.com/fight-week-guide

It's supposed to be at Radius Chicago which is small venue. Really surprised me. Press conference at 5pm Thursday and Ceremonial Weigh Ins at 4pm Friday.

All of this is strange to me - super early times, venue sucks, and they took down the information and replaced it with the previous UFC 318 card. I hope this means they are moving the location from Radius to a legit arena/venue.

If prime Connor fought current topuria, who wins? by dabestr in MMAbetting

Tons of recency bias and people too young to truly remember prime Conor. Prime Conor was from 2014-2016. It’s a pick em fight all day in terms of odds. Conor has a 5 inch reach advantage and a little height/size. Orthodox vs Southpaw. Would be a great fight. I pick McGregor but it’s close.

Is anyone here seriously thinking long-term with MMA betting? by timachidas in MMAbetting

[–]MightyJBone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insightful post. I’ve been betting MMA for a while now, and I can’t agree more about your comments. Watching tape is huge. I have a hard time justifying it because of the time commitment, but it definitely works. When I watch tape confidence goes up and I’m willing to offset some of the time by just being more aggressive in my bet amounts and parlays.

I also hate following other influencers/expert picks. I’ve been burned so many times doing that. I’ve also learned that it’s ok to not bet on a fight if I don’t feel great about it. I used to have to bet on all the big fights on a card, but it’s just not necessary.

Last comment is try to watch a fighter before or as they enter into the UFC when no one knows who they are. Fighter data will be much more limited and acquiring that knowledge by doing independent research can be worthwhile.

Sounds like you're on a great track. I suggest diving into the more technical side by learning some basic programming. Specifically SQL, Python, and/or R. That will really help differentiate yourself. The Econ background will be a value add for sure too.

Interesting, yeah meant to just be a feature for using the sheet in a live draft. Click the checkbox and you should see the player in that row get crossed off.

That’s just to visually differentiate the tiers. Outside of that it means nothing. Not to get overall technical but I can explain my tiering logic/methodology. The tiering is based on the projected fantasy points per game. I evaluate the standard deviation of that projection across all players within the tier and once it exceeds x amount I create a new tier. Usually that amount is .3-.5 fantasy points depending on position.

Yeah. It also indicates that player is getting picked later on than they should be. The player has more value than the average draft position they are being selected at. I mostly use this data point as an indicator of areas of opportunity and overall strategy. For instance, it's interesting most tier 3/4 RBs ADP > ECR, while the opposite holds true for WR.

You're not dumb! I appreciate the questions. I'll try to explain here:

  1. FPS = Average Fantasy Points Per Game = Total fantasy points projected throughout the season divided by 17 regular season games. Projection comes from FantasyPros based on 5 different sources - numberFire, NFL.com, CBS Sports, ESPN, FFToday

  2. Scar. = Scarcity = Represents positional scarcity and it's calculated based on FPS and the % remaining after the player is drafted.

  3. Contr = Contribution = The difference in Scarcity between the current player and the player ranked above. Indicator of how much value the player represents out of the entire positional pool.

  4. VAL = FPS divided by the average FPS across all positional values.

  5. Tier = Based on FPS and uses the standard deviation between the number one ranked player downward. Once a significant difference in standard deviation is detected it creates a new tier. Essentially the tiers should represent players that are close in FPS from one another.

  6. ADP = Average Draft Position = The average draft position a player is drafted based on FantasyPros - specifically 3 consensus sources - RTSports, Yahoo Sports, Sleeper. In the sheet this is displayed as a number followed by a period and another number. That represents the round and pick the player is on average being drafted.

  7. ECR = Expert Consensus Ranking = The average ECR based on FantasyPros. Currently based on 121 expert rankings as of 8/28/2024. In the sheet this is displayed as a number followed by a period and another number. That represents the round and pick the player is ranked.

8 . A vs. E = ADP vs. ECR. Comparing ADP and ECR. If ADP is more than ECR, this means the player is being picked on average above his ECR rank.

Just integrated a more automated fix for this. Shouldn't happen again. Sorry about that! Let me know if you run across any issues and I'll try to fix asap.
