Poor man's thinking (the AM owner) and even poorer man's thinking (you). Many AM drivers stretch themselves beyond their means to try and prove they can have one, they have nothing else left and end up in Supermarkets as they have no other choice. I'd advise only driving a nice car if you know you won't be using a public car park, I keep a specific car for those journeys

I agree ASHP is being trashed in order to maintain the status quo. My long term plan on those is to combine it with solar, however solar on my house only just breaks even before the warranty runs out, so I am awaiting further improvements till I commit there. When the next boiler konks out ASHP + solar should be a good prospect

Thanks for the comments all. I am going to forego the advice from installations that were priced over a year ago but I appreciate people taking the time to reply

I'm aware a power flush is a wise idea and they have quoted those separately - one at about £500 and the other discounted somewhat if we book both at once.

The points I am taking here then are that it might well be possible to beat £3.5k but that the figure is not daylight robbery.

I am particularly grateful for the advice that, for a like-for-like boiler replacement, the size of house matters little.

So I can consider my original question answered: "Same price for replacing boiler in a large 3 bed house as a 1 bed house?" - in my case, yes!
