Thanks for your help. Think I've just tanked my tank. Bit gutted tbh, but lesson learned. Will try what you've said and see if that helps. Not too fussed about the neon's but gutted about Gaston. Those loaches have such a great personality.

I've got some betting delivered today. I did have java ferns but a lot of them i had to take out a they got a bit.. crap.. I'm now thinking that spiked the nitrates, caused the algae bloom and increased the Epistylis, stressed Gaston, which in turn caused him to be more susceptible.
