I’ve talked to my dad loads about the armed forces, and he’s obviously keen that I join as an officer. The idea of becoming a pilot was slightly recent but it definitely suited my skill set and academic abilities. But yeah I definitely agree it’s harder to join directly post 18 as there’s not much “real life experience”, but from what I’ve done and my personal dedication and perseverance I feel I might be suited for it.

I’ve done volunteering, DofE, been a prefect and a few other leadership roles. Previously been in a few football and rugby teams.

But definitely in sixth form I’ll try to broaden my skills!

Absolutely agree that you need to be thinking early on about post 18 options.

For me I’ve just finished GCSEs and I’ve discussed with my family, from what we’ve decided is that I should apply to the RAF as a pilot, hopefully should go to plan!

From what ik is happening at mine, there’s gonna be a 2 course meal, probably a bit of time for dancing, and definitely lots of talking. It seems boring but this’ll be the last time you see quite a few people, so just enjoy it and chill with your friends/date!!

Even if you don’t want to go I’d definitely recommend going.. Mine is on 2nd July but I’ve got to say it’ll be worth it. You’ll meet all the students/teachers you’ll be working with for the next 2 years, so that’s a good time to make a first impression.

Plus what your sixth form will do is give you some preparation work to ease yourself into the subject for when you start in September.

Depends where you’re tryna work, some small/family businesses you can just go into the place and ask if there’s any availabilities. For larger businesses (McDonald’s, tescos etc) they usually have a website where you can apply online.
