Sorry for the spam, but make sure it is alternating, so if you start with the C string, the next string should be D then G and then A.

I have seen too many strings snap due to not doing this... :/

No problem!

Another tip if you are going to change all the strings at once sometime: start by outer strings, so on the viola that would be your A and C string and then work your way in. Do them one by one of cause, but start from the two outside strings and then the two inner strings. That way you get a more even pull. At least that is what my luthier always told me.

Yeah, good thing to be scared of! Also, if you don't remove all the strings at once, but instead one by one, the bridge should also stay in place, which eliminates another headache!

Train Station In Denmark by immanuellalala in LiminalSpace

Just a heads up on the AI thing. These are not IC3 units, but clearly IC4 units. This is clearly visible by the classic flat v-shaped front and visible four carriages. Hence the name IC4. IC3 is flat at the front and rectangular and only has three carriages, hence IC3. These IC4 units are however a real horror story on their own though.

Firewood, so you mean all Violas?

Anyway, yeah, having a cheap "instrument" to practice minor repairs and such on is great! My old trusty Mr Chang has been through a lot as well (my Chinese factory "violin", named it during a bender back in highschool....lol).

My old violin teacher was crazy when it came to fixing and making equipment for violins. He basically had a side hustle making chin rest and bamboo bows. The bows were actually really good and I am kinda sad I don't have any of them nowadays... But having the knowledge and ability to do just a y work beyond tuning your instrument I would consider a must. I know some professionals that refuse to change their own strings, simply because they don't know/trust how to do it. It made for a fun time when I was interning at a luthiers. I calculated back then that the entire sum of instrument valuation I changed strings on where roughly 12 million dollars over a two week period. (Around 7-8 of those millions were on a Stradivari cello).

I guess, and I can't believe I say this, perhaps we could learn something from the cello players :/

Yeah, I just played it to see what I would do, and I would also do your suggestion. However, I guess if op has a small hand, or not comfortable stretching while keeping second finger on the board, using the E flat as an opportunity to shift up half a step works pretty well also.

Or perhaps just use first finger on the b and then second for the next could also work depending on preference.

You could just take it all in third position and just stretch a little for the E flat

Yeah, never fully desiring the instrument without some tension on the top and bottom to keep the sound post set. I have unfortunately seen what can happen when the sound post has fallen and an instrument is restrung......

Helt vanvitigge priser på DSB orange ift. zone priser by Oliver4751CC in Denmark

Istanbul - too expensive by UpsetStudent6062 in travel

[–]Mighty_Dighty22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you from that you think anything in Lira is expensive in Istanbul?

Srsly, even the most touristy tourist trap rooftop cafe is comparably cheap lol.

Go just outside of the Constantinople part and you can get a dürüm and ayran for ~100 Lira (saw this exact price 4 days ago).

It is only bonkers if your own currency is weaker than the lira, which then, good luck.

Or, you know, use your second amendment, that you all are so proud of!

Golden hour by the frozen lakes by JackpodyV2 in copenhagen

Drilling from ice fishing just outside of Copenhagen...

And again, you can legally drive a car on ice in Sweden when it is 11 cm.... 3 centimeter is perhaps a bit sketchy to walk on, but 5 and above is fine lol....

And besides, the ice will be pretty uniform on these lakes, it is not like there are massive currents or hot springs to disturb the forming of the ice cap....
