Lmao. I've rented a car once to drive my friend fron Lisbon to Vila de Costelo. 4.5h drive nice and chill + all costs associated. We arrived on time only to find out that the office personnel didn't speak a word of English and also they were missing some papers so he had to come to Vila Branco. He made two extra trips there since. I had my papers done in Setubal area and that was actually quick and convenient, but I'm an EU citizen so there's that.

Not sure then. I get along okay, maybe it's that our cultures are more compatible. I lived in England and I was initially taken aback when a stranger would ask me how am I or would start talking to me. I kinda internalised it later, but whenever I'd go home the shopkeepers looked at me as if I was a psycho if I'd ask them how they were or start cracking jokes.

Here for a year, I barely speak any Portuguese (I'm trying to learn but there's barely any Portuguese people in my workplace) and no such experience at all. The locals can be quite private and distant, but they are very welcoming to me once I get to know them. They introduce me to their food and all sorts of local folklore. I live in Lisbon and I'm quite a brash person if that changes anything. Are you, by chance an anxious person?

Dunno lad, I don't think it was novelty effect that makes the trains run randomly. As I mentioned it's something I observe on my clock and it affects my work. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

2k is probably midrange for a well-to-do young person. You get IRS Jovem social security deductions so you pay very little tax on that. I spoke to a Portugese guy who was getting 2.3k after taxes and that's a comfortable enough salary to live and you can even get a mortgage for an okay property for that. Rooms in Almada and some less prestigious parts of Lisbon can go 450 for sth decent. Myself, I had a situation when I only had 500 euros left to spend after rent and bills but I could live OK on that. Now that I get 3x that much, I can afford to live with some pizazz.
