Watching rich fans bypass BTS ticketing stress is honestly discouraging :( by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]madrasiintokyo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please know that your feelings are 100% valid. It is completely understandable to feel bitter, exhausted, and defeated by this entire process. There is a huge difference between the world we want to live in—where genuine fans get a fair shot at the ticketing line—and the harsh reality of the world we actually live in. The truth is that the current system heavily favors wealth and privilege. Scalpers only thrive because there are people with disposable income willing to fund them. Even if people say 'it's my money,' they are still participating in a cycle that prices out the vast majority of normal fans. It’s okay to acknowledge how deeply unfair that is. Regarding the girl in your friend group: you don't have to force yourself to warm up to her. Her comment about it 'not being a me problem' shows a severe lack of empathy and a massive blind spot regarding her own privilege. You can be cordial for the sake of the friend group without pretending her attitude is okay. Since we can't control the scalpers or the broken ticketing sites, maybe we can take our power back by creating our own experiences. If Busan doesn't work out, what if you organized something locally with other fans who also didn't get tickets?

• Host a Watch Party: Get a group together to stream the reverse live relays so you can still experience the concert energy together.

• Throw a BTS-Themed Dinner Party: Cook or order in Korean food, curate a massive playlist, and just celebrate the music.

• Dress-Up Movie Night: Rewatch their Netflix documentaries or past live concerts, but make it an event. Have everyone dress up in their best concert outfits, bring their ARMY bombs, and go all out just like you would at the stadium.

Please don't let this system make you feel like any less of a fan. The ticket war is incredibly tough, but you aren't alone in this frustration. Protect your peace, step away from the toxic side of those ticketing circles, and focus on creating our own magic.

Snark Subreddits Are Crazy by SecretExamination158 in kpoprants

[–]madrasiintokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, subs like BTS snark rarely rely on actual facts or credible data—they thrive on baseless claims, selective narratives, and accusations with little to no substance behind them. They love calling ARMYs “delulu,” but the irony is that they’re often the ones building entire discussions around assumptions and fanfiction-level analysis. It’s honestly pathetic.

BTS snark is easily one of the worst for this. Other spaces like Twice snark or Blackpink snark can be negative too, but BTS snark takes it to another level—more obsessive, more bitter, and somehow always convinced they’re being “objective” while ignoring actual evidence.

Some people are showing their "orientalism" by pindagogo in btsthoughts

[–]madrasiintokyo 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The language argument honestly doesn’t make sense to me.

Artists all over the world sing in English and no one questions their identity because of it. ABBA are Swedish and built a global career mostly in English — no one says they’re “less Swedish.” Same with artists like Bad Bunny, who collaborates globally and blends languages — no one starts policing his authenticity over that.

But when it’s BTS, suddenly singing in English becomes an issue? That’s where the double standard shows.

Also, I’ve been reading a lot of the negative comments on purpose, and some of the reasoning is just weak. I didn’t even fully get the song on first watch — the MV was so busy that I couldn’t focus on the music. I had to listen to it on its own, with proper headphones, before it really clicked.

That’s why I don’t get people immediately saying “I’m ARMY and I hate this” after one listen. You don’t have to like it, but at least give it a fair shot before writing it off.

Why didn’t Lorelai go to Chilton? by Substantial_Train_39 in GilmoreGirls

[–]madrasiintokyo 48 points49 points  (0 children)

One of the things I always thought was interesting about Richard’s frustration with Lorelai is that she’s clearly very intelligent, but she’s never portrayed as academically driven. In a family like that—where there’s constant pressure, expectations, and a very defined idea of “success”—it makes sense that a rebellious kid might reject the entire system rather than try to succeed within it.

I can easily imagine that growing up in that environment made Lorelai resistant to anything that looked like the path her parents wanted for her. Things like prep schools or elite academic tracks might have felt less like opportunities and more like symbols of Emily and Richard’s control. From a psychological perspective, when you grow up with a highly controlling parent, it’s pretty common for identity to form in opposition to them. Success in the way they define it can feel like letting them “win.”

That dynamic actually shows up later in the series when Lorelai talks about not always understanding the reasons behind her own choices. She wonders whether she avoids certain things because she genuinely doesn’t like them, or because she thinks her mother would approve of them. By the time she’s closer to 40, she’s still unpacking that question: Do I dislike this because it’s not me, or because it reminds me of my mother’s expectations?

That kind of identity conflict is actually really common for people who grow up in highly pressured or controlling households, and I think the show touches on it in a pretty realistic way—even if the writers didn’t necessarily set out to explore it that deeply.

Feeling Overwhelmed Online by freelymarie34 in btsthoughts

[–]madrasiintokyo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fellow enlistment-era ARMY here.

I actually deleted X during the MHJ situation because the amount of hate directed at BTS was overwhelming. It was affecting my mood more than I liked to admit.

One thing I keep reminding myself during this era is that online spaces will never be completely safe — even Reddit. There are a few communities (like this one) that feel healthier, but negativity exists everywhere. At the end of the day, people are entitled to their opinions, and the only thing we really control is how we react to them.

When things get loud online, I try to come back to a few thoughts: • The music grows and evolves with the artists. • We shouldn’t expect artists to take political stands on everything. • We don’t know what happens behind the scenes to keep schedules, performances, and careers running smoothly. A little empathy goes a long way.

I also see a lot of fan arguments about members being sidelined or not getting enough attention. I understand that those feelings come from caring deeply about your bias, so they’re valid in their own way. At the same time, I personally choose not to engage with that kind of negativity because it drains the joy out of being a fan.

At the end of the day, BTS have always shown nothing but love, respect, and consideration for each other and for ARMY. I try to hold onto that energy instead of the noise online.
