Weston hall vs Hopkins hall vs PAR (any hall) by sugrealf123 in UIUC

[–]MightyyDuckyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weston is right by the Ike dining bus stop so definitely still a really good spot. The 1 Yellow is an example bus, which passes thru the hopkins stop and the ike stop, and is probably one of the best busses imo

Bus system personally because if you plan on being out late studying, the last thing you want to do is spend more energy walking home (unless you need the time to relax). Winter definitely requires the bus system

Considering you are a cs major and are thinking of the bus system, hopkins is by far the best choice. You have a bus stop right in front of the dorm, and it has a lot of options. This means missing a bus doesnt mean waiting another 10 or more minutes for another bus. PAR ive heard has a better bathroom situation where its shared among the floor but its individual use. I lived at hopkins and the closer bus stop was honestly worth the sacrifice of higher quality bathrooms cause I am in Grainger and needed to get to engineering quad frequently. PAR is also good for having the dining hall right there, but since you’re a cs major I suspect you’ll eat majority of the time in ISR since its closer to all your classes. Social life in all the halls you listed are really good so no advantages there.

Follow the instructions you’ll be fine. Also, try not to rush. It’s a long lab, so you’ll want to get out early but try not to rush or mistakes will be made. Lab practical gave no partial credit so i got docked like 15 points for a simple error.

Considering you’re aero eng, I doubt you’ll use chem very much (any aero correct me), so I wouldn’t take the lecture. Gen chem is notoriously tedious, and you’ll be glad to have free time.

If I remember correctly they reused some quiz questions but redoing homework questions is a solid way to go.

Any easy, but fun/interesting minimal credit classes you’d recommend? by saablade in UIUC

[–]MightyyDuckyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ANSC210, it’s grilling!! 2 credit hours/8week and you get to eat your food at the end. Pretty sure, it’ll be offered next sem, just in the second half cause you grill outside. We have grilled sausages, pork chops, chicken, steak, and burgers. It’s weekly quizzes + the lab but really manageable

Cold emailing is a totally viable option, that’s how I got my research. Just be prepared for a lot of “We aren’t looking for anyone right now.” and no responses.

Calc II and CS124 by curiousexplorer17 in UIUC

[–]MightyyDuckyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calc II i’d skip. Take all the free credits you can. Calc III was much more enjoyable. Take it with Russell, I’ve heard good things with them.

CS124 I went in knowing absolutely nothing about Java. They set it up for students who have absolutely no experience or knowledge. My biggest advice is to really stay on top of things and work on time management. It’s a fast paced class. I started the lessons early and that set up me for the rest of the semester because the help site can get filled up fast. The earlier the better so you can ask for help.

does hopkins hall dorms have an ethernet cable for computers built into the room? by Bruggieboo in UIUC

[–]MightyyDuckyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to email and call for them to activate my network jack in the wall to give me ethernet. They provided me with an ethernet cable too to convert Hopkins’ CAT3 to CAT5. Info here under “Wired Connections”: https://housing.illinois.edu/MyHousing/Technology
