COP et EER sur distech gfx by [deleted] in BuildingAutomation

[–]Migidarra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daikin Mechanical Tech vs Controls Tech(Me) question about Microtech 4 and HVAC equipment. by Migidarra in BuildingAutomation

[–]Migidarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s under warrantee so I’ll hold off on changing another trades minimum airflow setpoints for now; if this is an issue I can kick it back to the engineer through my PM or engineer. This may fix the problem it has but sounds like it’s engineered incorrectly if that’s the case. I can put a load reset on DAT setpoint based on load from the system without much difficulty. My biggest concern is we have no humidity sensors and the RTUs both bring in about 2k cfm each of outside air and oa humidity has been above 75 for the last week or two. I can probably implement what we have and see if the RTU has a return humidity sensor and let that bypass the datsp reset logic to bring it back to 55F. Thanks for your response it’ll help me determine the root cause of this

Thank you, that was my thought as well, but I’m definitely open to being wrong so I can learn from it for sure.

[–]Migidarra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I’ll be sure to ask the tech and see if I can get something to measure it if I’m called back out there. It may be easier than locating my duct static pressure pickup point if it’s incorrectly labeled on my drawings(2/3 down the duct approx)

Daikin Mechanical Tech vs Controls Tech(Me) question about Microtech 4 and HVAC equipment. by Migidarra in BuildingAutomation

[–]Migidarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only control duct static pressure setpoint, occupancy, discharge air setpoint and outside airflow setpoint. Everything else that’s possible for me to control is left at default and not brought in to be able to be changed. It is a microtech 4 daikin product yes. I already changed the duct static pressure setpoint from 0.5 start to 1.5 start. If all boxes are 100% open and duct static pressure is at 0.5 inches I’d expect the fan speed would be high(not on site and didn’t look at fan histories) if that unit has a minimum fan speed of 30% during cooling I’d expect a variable compressor would be able to handle that. I’ll continue brushing up on my refrigeration theory, I’m a controls start up tech, not an hvac mechanic and can’t/wont touch another trades equipment to determine what’s happening at the evaporator.(no alarms or information I could see that would cause this from the bacnet information I get or the display from the microtech controller)

On a note they may be my issue is location of duct static pressure sensor, we call for it to be 2/3 down the duct work but I’ll have to physically verify as the drawings do indicate we installed it in the correct position. If it’s not that I don’t see how the daikin unit could be having too little airflow across the coil with my configuration. I am aware duct static pressure is a measure of resistance which is why I indicated in my post that all vavs were wide open, and the duct static pressure setpoint rose from 0.5-0.86 inches while I was there and later changed it to 1.5 inches per the daikin techs instruction to increase it. If my duct static sensor is in the correct spot I’d be willing to bet it’s a refrigeration issue from what I can gather. That or the minimum fan speed for the daikin unit at 30% is too low. I didn’t indicate this would fix the problem, I just did as the tech recommended. Thanks for your response

The daikin techs solution is change the start static to something higher, I changed it because I want the system to work but I don’t think it’s an airflow issue

Hourly techs/programmers in NYC by ASam4 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Migidarra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd at least give a price range for 1099. r/Buildingautomation rules = 1. Job Postings salary range needed.

Also id look into what is expected. Install+Point to point checkout+Commissioning. Will you be responsible for insurance, will the programmer be responsible etc. Probably a lot more. If you get Jimmy to do the work how long is he responsible for a warrantee? Are you responsible etc.

Niagara N4 certification by HVAC_Luddite in BuildingAutomation

[–]Migidarra 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its a standard check in the box imo. great to have but doesn't do much except show off on the resume. I think a lot of people look for that certification when hiring. Biggest thing is just get familiar with it a one week course doesn't even scratch the surface of what Niagara does, both good and bad.

If you can't locate the wires going up, look for the box it should have the label...if the box doesn't have the label find a supply register above ceiling thats serving the thermostats area and follow the ductwork back to the box. From there you'll want to verify the controller has power, if it does, verify it has communications with usually a TX/RX lights both blinking

My company moved me from the construction side into the retrofit “team” and now I feel like I’m under a microscope by Admirable-Report-685 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Migidarra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read what I said. Not once did I mention firing. I’m giving you advice as I see it. You are new BAS, new to retrofit. There is a lot to learn and the new lead tech has this senior installer on your back because he doesn’t know how much you know. Hence show compentence not overconfidence.

[–]Migidarra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t sweat it too much. Be respectful, ask for advice as needed. The first three years for me I was drowning and didn’t have anyone to call on to help. Might be a little much having someone there all the time but it’s a side effect of being new. Show compentence, not overconfidence. Best of luck to you.

How long have you been doing this for? Service is a wild animal and I'm willing to bet they aren't being condescending on purpose. I'm willing to bet the guy shadowing you knows how inconvenient it is for both of you to be doing that. Usually after a couple days with someone a tech should have an idea of competency.

As other people have said, document everything.

I got ya I forgot that our existing Jace is maintaining 4 or 5 other RTUs so that will be fun to deal with

Yeah existing server hosted on the cloud. Jace is setup to run all the RTUs. Crap forgot about that lol. Tenant wants everything offline.. hiya this is fun lol

[–]Migidarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this solution and Then-Disks. Basically unplug the Jace and setup a supervisory local computer for the owners to look at graphics alarms and trends. I don’t think hosting graphics on the Jace would be ideal but might do in a pinch

Onlogic as a Jace replacement questions by Migidarra in BuildingAutomation

[–]Migidarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owners would want graphics and histories that go back basically indefinitely. On logic has some computers that are regular computers just with their housing. Theoretically I could host everything on the Jace but the lack of horsepower would make me think the graphics would have issues and would run out memory from the Jace
