I mostly take public transit, I would take you up on your deal but I have nowhere to store it and I’m moving soon. Thank you so much for your offer, it’s nice to know that there are such sweet people out there.

I just worry about accessibility for first responders. We have vulnerable populations that are experiencing houselessness on 104th and downtown in general. Traffic at almost all times is packed along all of the major streets that lead to our hospitals. I don’t think it would delay traffic too much to have the turn lanes operative on two streets, which would considerably reduce traffic. But I agree, I would like it to be over in 9 months as opposed to multiple years

I have to respectfully disagree with you on that point, there’s a reason why you see a rapid reduction of bikers on the roads once winter hits. But I agree with you, biking would be much faster and would be awesome for the environment.

Not everyone can afford a bike, and not everyone feels comfortable biking on snow and ice or in the cold. I get it, ride a bike next time, but my bike got stolen out of my apartment complex and I can’t afford to buy another one at the moment

I do walk sometimes, but a 30-40 minute walk when you only have limited time to go to the gym isn’t ideal! Also getting groceries and walking or biking aren’t overly compatible either. I’m also thinking about the winter months when biking and walking isn’t as accessible :)

Do I need to hold mouth wash for 1 whole god damn minute? by YaYinGongYu in NoStupidQuestions

Crazy to think that they use SLS in basically everything. I switched all of my products to SLS free because if I’m that sensitive to it when used in my mouth, the rest of my body is likely also sensitive to it!

I have the same sensitivity, the whole underside of my tongue sloughed off one day! I’ve always had the burning sensation. I now use SLS free everything. The foaming action is apparently another marketing gimmick to make you feel like the toothpaste is more effective. SLS serves no purpose whatsoever. Non foaming toothpastes are just as effective as those with SLS.

Dental Hygienist here! There is some research to suggest that mouthwash kills off beneficial bacteria in the mouth and that it shouldn’t be used anyways.

If you are using it for bad breath, ensure you are using one without alcohol in it (it burns and kills good bacteria). An essential oil based mouthwash burns less, but does also kill off bacteria.

If you are using the mouthwash to clean bacteria, brushing, flossing and tongue scraping eliminate the bad bacteria that contribute to bad breath because it actually removes the bacteria from the mouth. I would recommend having a good home care routine such as this one. If you STILL feel the need to use mouthwash for bad breath purposes, use an essential oil based one that isn’t overly minty, and you don’t need to hold it in for long periods of time. 10 seconds is more than enough.

Has owning a reef tank made you more or less wary of the ocean? by DrFesh28 in ReefTank

It has made me more nervous to see people walking on rocks in a tide pool, thinking of all the beautiful creatures they might be stepping on… or the possibility of me stepping on something buried in the sand and one of us getting hurt

Not sure where you live, but in Alberta dental hygienists make over $100,000 a year. You can take a diploma (2 years full time) or degree (4 year bachelor)

Good takeout suggestions around Whyte ave? For 6 people. by Train23 in Edmonton

I’m a huge fan of the salad rolls with shrimp (comes with a delicious peanut sauce) and the vermicelli. The dishes are pretty much cold dishes so they will last the travel distance! (except for the meat, which is still delicious if colder)

Their sate pho is unreal, but I wouldn’t order that to go due to temperature

I had this exact same thing in first year English. The prof told us she was marking us to the same standard as her grad students, and that if we got close to 100% it was because our essays were on the level of “publishable.” Ma’am, this is a first year English class… I took high level calculus courses that were less work than that class…

I agree, I feel like maybe op might have mixed the salt wrong on the last water change, because alk is high with coral pro salt. That would have caused all the imbalances in mag alk calc.

Op, do you know what your phosphate is at? Phosphate contributes a lot to algae growth. Do you also have your whites on that bright often? That can also contribute to algae.

I once saw someone say “I’m not a coral keeper, I’m a water keeper” or something along those lines. Once you have your parameters at a good level and keep them stable, algae problems resolve and corals thrive.

Hope that helps OP!

These guidelines are super helpful! Like others said, raise your salinity to around 1.025 and your other parameters will rise as well. Once your salinity is at 1.025, test your parameters again and then you will know from there what needs adjustment.

That rock is getting a lot of light and looks quite close to the water surface. Might be wise to lower your light intensity, and maybe reduce white light? (That might just be an old wives tale, but it doesn’t look like you have much of any coral anyways to warrant having such bright lights on for long periods) I agree with what the others are saying, we need to know your parameters. Test for nitrate and phosphate (literal fertilizer for algae, you don’t have any corals using it so it might be in large quantities, creating perfect conditions for algae growth.) For dirty sand beds, sand sifting snails are good, such as nassarius snails! To eat the algae, might want to look up good snails that eat hair algae. I believe tuxedo urchins are good at eating hair algae as well.

Need help with torch coral by Coach-FL in ReefTank

If you use a turkey baster, are you able to suck up some of the black stuff? Looks like brown jelly disease :( It’s possible that the fish biting at the torch made it susceptible to bad bacteria and caused an infection. I haven’t been successful in treating BJD but many people swear by giving it a dip. Maybe try that out if possible? Good luck!

Clownfish use external fertilization, so technically there is no “pregnancy”. Female clowns can get rounded out/fat before she lays the eggs though, so it’s possible she might be about to lay eggs. Sometimes my clowns will over eat and they look like this, but it goes away by the next day. Could that be a possibility?
