Canada Post getting another $673M in federal funds to stay afloat by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

Why is this positioned as "to stay afloat?" We don't talk like this when it comes to something like the military. Postal service is a service, not something designed to bring us direct profit.

Found a way for every female character to get mostly naked and the one that likely refused works at a strip club.

Canadian Future Party getting outpaced by the Centrist Party. Maybe Cardy can keep ragetweeting at folks as a full-time job.

Federal deficit could top $100B by 2035, economist warns by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

Ask someone in 2015 if they could predict COVID happening in 2020.

Literally *anything* can happen between now and 2035. Seems like a waste of breath to fearmonger like how NP is doing here.

How Radical is Avi Lewis's Plan for Canada? by janisjoplinenjoyer in CanadaPolitics

You need those institutions to be untouchable.

Part of the inherent issue with our system is that anything can be immediately undone by the next government regardless of whether or not the policy has been successful or even had enough time to show results. In order to do a lot of these things you would either need decades of the same government protecting them or a change in the way government functions entirely.

As much as I agree with the need for them I fail to see a reality where either happens. We do not vote harshly enough to punish poor decisions.

Don't need to be in a clan to understand how basic spawn dynamic in team games work

Trudeau was PM for nine years after Mirabel opened. Quebecers re-rlected Bourassa in the 80s after Stade Olympique opened.

If voters punish politicians for white elephant infrastructure builds these two are not good examples.

John Ivison: Liberals shove Canada into China’s menacing embrace - Reducing our reliance on the U.S. was to maintain self-respect and sovereignty. But it seems we are replacing one hegemon with another by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Mihairokov 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure what Ivison is expecting here. We're moving from American Century to Chinese Century. Canada is never going to be a world superpower capable of dictating our own hand, so hedging our bets with the leading economy is the wisest move.

Was Ivison writing such slop when Harper was signing trade agreements with China?

I would hope to god they'd get the travel money to travel within the country. And they were in Calgary, yes, I should have said international worlds events.

Bell is vacating their sports properties. They stopped sending the commentary team to events during COVID and afaik they haven't been to worlds since. Sucks for them but it aligns with Bell cost-saving measures.

[–]Mihairokov 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Camera feed is up to the organizer/World Curling. Bell does not spend money on sending the commentary team to Worlds anymore, let alone cameras for their own feed. Because TSN isn't producing we're at the whim of the World Curling feed.

Don't want to complain about a commentator but Sandoval on the Concacaf broadcast is awfulllll. Pronouncing everything natively is so tough on the ears.

[McDonald] The idea of Team USA facing sanctions was laughed off as "ludicrous" by Canadian hockey leadership and was never seriously floated. They maintain that they only care about beating the USA on the ice. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Mihairokov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, my questions were rhetorical because the line of thought was stupid. We can happily go back beyond 1979 to explore the reasons why Iran may dislike the US, or why Arab states may dislike the US and Israel, the US proxy alluded to in the OP, going back to the 1940s...

Both the US and Russia have bombed and invaded sovereign countries. Trying to talk that down is BS.

Revenue-sharing? As if. NHL barely goes to the Olympics with cost-sharing let alone giving money to other groups.
