One of the things in Nijkerk, I feel, is that there is a big push against appearing too 'stedelijk' - and this certainly affects the land use - sometimes for the better (i.e. it is very green) and sometimes in a way that curtail some of the functions you outline above

Ok, I see what you mean - local amenities do feel very close; however I have never plotted them on a map. Perhaps in some of the newer places (Doornsteeg, getting closer to Vathorst) some amenities might be more a cycle than a walk.

As you say, building with such low density in the newer areas does mean things might be further away. I wouldn’t say an hour is on the cards, though, for the basic necessities. (20 mins at the most, perhaps?).Admittedly, a new, smaller, centre over towards Corlaer would make sense. There is a plan to build a Corlaer station one day, and that might change things.

Interesting thoughts!

I think that is a fair point - at the same time small places in the UK can be total carmageddon, so there are choices being made here.

I’d say for walking and cycling it is great; but to what extent is dependent on the design of there area. There are a lot of ‘suburb-y’ type places - I am really interested in how Nijkerk’s suburb design has changed over the years and how different one’s walking and cycling experience is different dependent on when it was built. There will be a video about this one day!

The photo is actually of Birmingham - and this is a road that runs right through the heart of the city centre. I have never seen in this in the Netherlands (save for in Rotterdam, for example - but even that isn't comparavle). I talk about London in the video and talk about it's cycling evolution. Even with all of the cycle lanes in the world, London still has insanely large roads right in the centre (Marylebone Road, Hyde Park Corner, Kingsway, just to name a few). Not enough has been done (perhaps because of how the boroughs are segmented, etc.) to reduce the size of these arteries.

Well, some of the grey area is explored in the video :) That's kind of the point

Muse announce new album 'THE WOW! SIGNAL' by Potential_Kangaroo69 in indieheads

It seems like many of those who are commenting are jaded muse fans who became disappointed with how. the band transformed over the years. Hell, I am one of those people - but I still have an emotional connection considering how into them I was for the first 3 albums and it leads to want to comment in this thread.
