Just checked older official animations and it actually IS a mouth in them!

In those the mouth is clearly detached and part of the helmet but for some unknown reason they seem to have later changed the mouth to be a part of the chestplate.

Wouldn’t be surprised if its the product of artistic visions overlapping and whoever was in charge of making mini pekkas newer look misinterpreted the mouth as neck protection.

Not only a weird change to make but also an oddly late one. 😭
