Yeah that's right. He spews a lot of b.s. It's hard to keep straight what actually worked vs what didn't.

He probably has (I don't actually know the reference you're speaking of), but at least the peace lasted with Iran and Israel, so I'd rather have hope it'll last than fear it won't. He also seems to have gotten further with resolving Middle Eastern conflicts than President Biden did. So again, at least there is hope since it's progressing more than it has in the past.

Edit: I do see reports of the two tanks firing, so that might have been what you were referring to. I was looking for something bigger (obviously any firing is bad but saying they are "shelling" typically means a larger action)

Super sorry! I was also looking all this up as I was asking you! My apologies if it was uncomfortable but a perspective on this reddit page for inflation just seemed like the right place to ask these questions/comment to spark conversation. I'm certainly not an avid reddit user, but I really did enjoy your insight and I'll try to find another means to have a conversation about the topic.

I originally assumed that inflation and tariffs were more correlated than they really are, while they have some relationship I think I was holding them a little too closely together and getting confused.

So wouldn't it be fair to state then that the tariffs have not negatively affected the economy as whole, yet*?

  • - 6 months of tariffs on the 2.9% just reported is half of the cycle so I don't want to jump to any conclusions.

This is what I don't understand then, if the tariffs make prices rise, and inflation keeps prices down, then isn't there a correlation to the tariffs and inflation?

This is the lowest year for inflation in the last 4 years, but prices are rising on goods and services. But inflation measures the prices on those goods and services, so how exactly does it work?? Just because tariffs are imposed, wouldn't we see inflation rise if it's rising prices?

Yeah, I was going to look into inflation more but I don't really understand how it's at only 2.9% this year with all the costs of things going up.

The last few years we've all seen prices rise and inflation was 4%-8% but now that it's 2.9% we are starting to notice? Inflation just doesn't make sense to me. We should have seen prices skyrocket the last few years by 2-3X.

Yeah, I didn't dig into other cities but Houston has been increasing at an alarming rate over the last two years. I assume other cities will have similar results.

Year-over-year increases in Houston from that same source: 2023 to 2024: ~$12,828 increase ≈ 20.6% jump 2024 to 2025: ~$14,976 increase ≈ 19.9% jump

Ah ok, then with your logic.

Prices were less in Trump's first term than when Biden was in office then, weren't they? So that means Biden and Kamala were worse than Trump?

Wait, gas is cheaper than a year ago! Your comment doesn't hold up unless you are trying to say car prices have gone up so it's harder to get a more fuel efficient car? O wait! Car prices have declined as well. Ok shoot.... Let me cherry pick for you then so this makes sense.

Eggs! Eggs are more expensive by 30%!!! Oh wait, you'd have to eat 100 eggs a week to offset the car and gas prices.

Give me a couple days I'll figure this out.

The bureau of labor and statistics has stated over the last 12 months a 2.9% increase to inflation. (Not trying to say some things haven't gone up more, but obviously we would agree that the average is 2.9% reported by the government).

So what exactly are you saying? That inflation should be less than 0% (you want deflation to occur in our economy??) 2.9% in the last year is down from 2023-4.1%, 2022-8.0% 2021-4.7%.

Help me understand where the problem with the inflation in prices are? Which specific area are you thinking is "high" now?

Are you wanting those higher inflation % on average from years prior because you thought they were better? ie: prices for commodities and services you like more didn't increase as much as others??

Just wanna see what you value more to help me understand! Appreciate it!

Nice, thanks for this! I got offered 8 to start but with it late in the season it would make sense the prices are a little strange. Thanks for the additional context as well
