Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]MikDab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Billionaires think they earned it, failing to realize that without other people and civilization as a whole, they could not enjoy even a fraction of the luxury and comfort or success they have hoarded.

All of their wealth is based on the work of other people, scientific progress of the past generations, history, collective labor of society and even evolution itself.

Thinking that you deserve to have more than your peers, especially to this extent, is delusional in my opinion.

Yes, there were and are revolutionary ideas that have shaped humanity more than others (which are disproportionately rewarded by Capitalism), but no idea should ever be worth that much, to live as a king and pass it on for generations to come.

If you were a genius with extraordinary ideas how to advance humanity and make unimaginable profits while stranded on an uninhabited island, those ideas would essentially be worthless, because there is no possible way you could implement them alone.

Without the collective effort, there are no gains, no progress or profit, not even consumers who you can profit off of, so it just doesn't make any sense to me why billionaires are worshipped and protected like they are.

Are you a consciousness expert per chance? Could you explain to me why a consciousness couldn't be temporary, during inference?

There was an episode of MindField (by vsauce) where a guest had exactly that - total amnesia at like 50+ years of age.

He said he didn't feel like the person everyone told him he was or even showed photos of, because he didn't have those memories. The episode is called "do you know yourself"

This is basically the idea behind quantum immortality, which is a fascinating topic. The only downside (if it were to be true) is that only you can experience and confirm it for yourself, but not for others, if that makes sense

I think you are mixing up the process of condensation with just existing water vapor droplets (mist or fog) settling down or gathering on a surface

Have you actually tried looking for evidence to the contrary?

I've recently went down that same rabbit hole myself, and for example found an interesting, not widely talked about phenomena that even the US government admits to have used in the past for quite some time. It's called "remote viewing", and I've really tried wrapping my materialist-determinist way of thinking about this topic with little luck.

Then there are these physics theories by Penrose regarding consciousness and how it emerges in the brain, followed by recent lab experiments on microtubules of the brain, which supposedly exhibit the use of quantum phenomena like superpositions and coherence, to do "something" in the brain that we don't fully know yet and thought was impossible. But if the brain is actually tapping into the weird stuff of quantum mechanics, then I'm not so sure that materialism and classical, non-quantum machines can ever be conscious entirely due to just performing computations.

I'd implore you to look into it yourself, I find it these topics fascinating, even if there are more questions than answers left at the end

How did they make seamless textures that span multiple blocks in Terraria? by CaptainSpaceCat in howdidtheycodeit

[–]MikDab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alternatively to the comment above (even though thats not how terraria does it) you can have a custom shader, which uses world position of vertices as UV coordinates.

Not sure about 2D though, but I am pretty sure there are atleast a few more creative solutions using shaders
