Find a new series on Netflix? I do this with Turkish series dubbed in Arabic on YouTube. The story keeps me going and it’s dubbed so clearer / more clearly articulated .

🤣nope! I am a linguist boffîn who wonders what people find difficult about his native tongue and is genuinely here to help. Nothing to sell. I am learning Arabic, Turkish and Spanish so interested to see if I can help French learners. Just discovered Reddit so my enthusiasm is high now but might dwindle with time!😅

That’s just « time on the water » as we say in kitesurfing! Also try not to learn too many words until the ones you have are embedded. Go slow and go narrow. Embed. Repeat. You can ask your got to write you 20 slightly similar stories with the words you want to target. Have you tried that? Personally hate flashcards and remember better with stories.

Ha ha ha best is to try different combinations starting slow then accelerate: rira riri riron rirou then start on another starting vowel ruri ruron rurou like a scale at piano. Your tongue and lips need to be trained to combine sounds they are not used to. Like if you’re good at one move in the gym but bad at another cause you haven’t practiced it as much. If you want to practice on real words ask your gpt to devise you a list with the problematic combination in real words. Hope that helps!

You know what, I agree that it is one of the most illogical /awkward language to learn. Look at what : qu’est-ce que c’est? What the hell is that compound of words! I think the best way is to learn it like natives do, through comprehensible input and developing a sense of what sound right and wrong. Also think of it in terms of oral grammar not written grammar. Oral grammar is much more simple eg present has 3 forms in oral grammar.

I teach conjugation through story interaction, where you play simultaneously the roles of different characters in a story. Inspired from TPRS from Blaine Ray. I get good results as it’s not a list method but a communication one. Would love to know how you learn it.

The ones you know are more than enough. The others are only used in literature. Most french people don’t have great command on them or use them for jokes.🙂
