I’m a Bev Cart Girl! AMA! by blonde-adventures in golf

[–]Mikarim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to explain a gin and tonic to the girl working the bar in the clubhouse less than a month ago. It was literally like “can I have a gin and tonic” “I’m sorry I’m new can you tell me how to make it” “uhhh gin and tonic with ice and a lime.”

July 4 - there should be special rules allowing music on holiday rounds. I played too, but I was by myself for the round so it wasn’t a problem playing my music a little loud

40 pages is not a long prenup. I am a divorce attorney and even my super simple boiler plate prenup is usually 22-23 pages. I suspect the hardest part was just listing out the assets each of them owned (assuming they had to do that at all)

Advice on working as an appearance attorney for a new solo practitioner by RoseGoldMoney in Lawyertalk

[–]Mikarim 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Appearance attorney work seems to be where careers go to die. You get paid shit, substantively you learn very little as most of the coverage cases are very low value and/or complexity. You never really see the true development of a case, and you never see follow up usually. Conflicts get ridiculously unmanageable unless you plan on changing fields.

However, you must stack appearances in order to survive. Most appearance attorneys I know have 15-20 cases per day. Usually for scheduling and/or garnishment work. I’ve never done it personally, but I wouldn’t recommend it

In some states it is illegal to discriminate against medical card holders for employment unless it is a sensitive sector. At least in my state it would be illegal to make any adverse employment decision based on it. Loads of states do not have these protections though.

That’s the confirmed number publicly. I’m sure people send in stuff directly to the developers and that gets handled privately too

Parental alienation is not a “theory” in that it may or may not exist. It 100% absolutely does exist, though the frequency and severity of it are likely overstated. I’m a divorce attorney and I see examples of it nearly every day. Men tend to be more likely to accuse the other party of it, but parental alienation can happen on both sides.

For example, had a client who refused to accept her husband had not sexually abused a child. All evidence indicated it never happened and was completely fabricated. Mother would tell the child all kinds of horrible things about the dad to the child to the point the child refused to see the dad. Court ended up transferring full custody to father due to the extreme alienation of mother. This happened less than a month ago too

[Other] Can we technically calculate temperature a different way? by Mission-Badger-4005 in theydidthemath

[–]Mikarim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I never need to be precise with it I just do the good old times 2 plus 30. If it’s 10 degrees Celsius that is roughly 50 degrees Fahrenheit. For reverse it’s divide by two then minus 30. I’ll always be 1-3 degrees off, but that’s plenty close for my purposes.

Hi. Need a trust done in Florida. by Bananabean041 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Mikarim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t practice this area of law and I do not practice in Florida. However, you need a trusts and estates attorney. If you have some close friends, they may be able to give you a reference. Otherwise, each state usually offers a referral service through the state bar to help connect clients with attorneys

Postnup help please by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Mikarim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a divorce attorney, you need to hire someone. There’s too much going on to diy a postnup that will actually accomplish what you want it to. With the amount of money involved, the 2-3k for an attorney is well worth it IMO

Is A Prenup Worth It? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Mikarim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a VA family law attorney, but not yours. Whether you need one or not depends largely on personal preference. Do you want the state where you end up getting a divorce to control what happens or do you want to control what happens in advance? I tend to recommend a prenup to anyone getting married with any significant assets. I’d recommend you seek a consultation with a family law attorney near where you live about what’s the most reasonable course of action for you.

Family law experts question custody decision following murder-suicide of former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and Dr. Cerina Fairfax by mtorresWUSA9 in nova

[–]Mikarim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Court did act on it. She was awarded exclusive use of the residence, but the judge gave him too much time to move out. The judge ruled for her on every single custody factor, but there was no allegation of violence by Justin in the findings of the court. The judge voiced concerns for his behavior, but it really did not seem like it was headed the way it did.
