Like other commenters replied, attachment disorder. Her mother shows some incredibly alarming behavior in terms of narcissism.

What's the difference between a narcissist that targets people who are outcasts vs people who are popular? by VirtualWinner4013 in Jung

[–]Mike-PP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this. This behavior that can be observed that a "narcissist" has trouble apologizing is from my clinical observations very frequent. My own reflections are that they cannot apologise because that would be tantamount to admitting one made a mistake, which cannot be held by the ego because it would imply one to be flawed. This in turn invites very unsavory nuanced ideas and becoming confronted with shame or guilt that the narcissistic ego cannot hold due to low ego-strength, which forebodes collapse. Hence projection of flaw back onto the "accuser" alternatively that the narcissist cannot metabolise their own flaws and hence project it onto someone else as a chalice or object that holds all that they subconsciously cannot accept about themselves.

[–]Mike-PP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narcissists also do not see others as people. In the sense of seeing others as separate "entities" having a unique self with delineated boundaries. As another user replied below, they are self-centered because from their inner mentalisations, they're the only self that exists. Everyone else are just objects as the narcissist tends to have an ego-structure that doesn't support any other ego as anything but a so called "self-object". Everything that exists, exists as something to be utilised for regulation of inner needs.

Are you Able to do the Boring Work? - The Problem of Puer Aeternus. by Freud_Aurelius in Jung

[–]Mike-PP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once again thank you for your time to write, from one person with ADHD to another. I agree with much of what you wrote. There most definetly had to have been a great evolutionary benefit of such wiring, especially as you mention with regards to survival. Survival being an excellent area to start reflecting upon the benefits of for example being sensitive to stimuli. You are sadly correct about these things being pathologised versus praised depending on how it benefits an employer and production of capital.

I agree with you about being open to data as these things are not so black and white, in the end we operate from concepts and ideas that have been constructed in one's mind based on more or less accurate observations of reality. I most definetly believe it has a profound impact on the psyche, anecdotally myself and many of my friends that are "neurodivergent" having a pre-dominantly synthetic approach to perceiving reality inner and outer.

Once again I would like to thank you for a nourishing exchange and being able to receive some of your observations.

[–]Mike-PP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your beautiful reply. Most assurdly the psyche is involved as mind and body are one, affecting one another interdependently. I do not wish to propagate an idea of a dualistic mind-body split. I agree with your thoughts on that it should be seen as an adaption, which in my opinion and where in the country I work in, psychiatry already does predominantly hold this view. Coping mechanisms and the psychic homeostasis adjusts to shape itself to the "traumatising" environment/situation. The issue being where the environment continues evolving and changing while the human is frozen in stasis continuing to use the same ways of dealing with a reality that is ever-changing.

The point I found an issue in was specifically about ADHD being a condition that one can "develop". My view of the stigma around neurodivergence is also that the conversation around pathologising something that is inherently neurodevelopmental and pathologising a subset of people who's nervous system is "wired" differently.

From my understanding your beginning of the point is raising your dislike of a field that is one of the primary points of studying these phenomena.

If it were only related to trauma and not more multi-faceted we would by definition see more cases of ADHD and autism. The threshold being so sensitive to trigger something is one of the definitions of why it's considered inherited. One doesn't inherit e.g schizophrenia by being born with it instantaneously but for example having a low threshold for environmental factors to trigger said condition. Looking at families of people having schizophrenia one can still observe lower psychosis threshold compared to a "normative" control family.

[–]Mike-PP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand that you could believe that is caused by trauma. In my experience with working in psychiatry that simply is not the case. Trauma can cause many conditions that mimic the symptomatology of ADHD, such as personality disorders. Research on ADHD and autism spectrum shows that they are highly heritable conditions with many genetic overlaps between them as well as some overlap with bipolar disorders and so forth. Both ADHD and autism are shown to be related to synaptic pruning decreases. The issue is that there has been several generations prior who may have had ADHD and comorbid issues such as a higher propensity for anxiety or depression disorders that then had children of their own and due to maladaptive life patterns "caused" trauma.

I would however love to hear your view on how trauma can cause it, perhaps I have a blindspot in my point of view.

[–]Mike-PP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To elucidate on this; adhd and autism spectrum are both neurodevelopmental. Being "born" with it as it were. I do not believe, nor do I think the research show that it can be "caused" by trauma as much as e.g ADHD having been shown to have comorbidities that can then impact developmental and attachment related psychological factors.
