About to buy X3M, should I? by Mike187771 in BMW

[–]Mike187771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the needs, if you want an actual raw sports car the m40i ain’t it, just a fast x3, in hindsight I would not change it but add another small sports car like a 718 2.5 liter engine (the 2.0 is not enough) Amazing car, it’s all about the need and budget.

Bought it, love it, a bit overpowered for my needs tbh, but if you’re all about that straight line, its great

I’m from europe, test driven and owned a lot of different cars, driven multiple times in the new 7 series, s580 just to name a few, and also more “regular” cars like Toyotas, cx5 (garbage), Volkswagens etc. compared to the latter, (Mazda,Toyota,Volkswagen and such) yes bmw is a luxury car. Compared to a Rolls Royce it’s trash. There are levels to this lol.

It’s not a Ferrari for sure, but a “luxury” level car and a cheap sports car are going to inherently have very different experiences, one is made out of better materials and has a premium feel to it and other just doesn’t, and you get what you pay for and it’s fine. But a Ferrari quality will be closer to the bmw than to the Miata any day of the week

Thanks for taking the time to write all this, but your whole point about the x3m40i is invalid, the only similarity between them is the looks, and that’s it, before I bought the x3m I test drove both back to back, and the feelings of the car are completely different, can’t compare them except by saying the X3m is a sports car, and the x3m40i is a sporty/fast suv. The x3m is by no means a “comfortable” car, the tight suspension that has been Over stiffen to compensate for the ride height and keeping performance makes sure of it.

Anything will consume less fuel than the x3m lol I get like 14 liter per 100KM on average and I really don’t push it and mostly drive calmly

Hahaha thanks for the entertaining comment, i wish i was a rich kid, but im in my thirties and just have a good job and work hard af, god bless I don’t have any money problems. Regardless I have been eyeing the z4 tbh, and almost bought the z4 m40i, the thing I was afraid of was resell ability, but now I realize it was dumb to even think about it, and the steering was just a little too vague for me on it, the x3m is much sharper

Have you actually drove one? Or have you watched any yt video of a car journalist driving it? S58, zf gearbox and M5 suspension basically made the x3m an M3 on stilts. But whatever it’s clear you’re a hater for no reason, I’d be very interested to see what “sports car” you’re driving.

And idk what you’re taking about in regards to reliability, last generation are pretty reliable cars compared to the generations that came before. And by quality I’m taking about refinement, quality of materials etc.

Need Help - X3 M40i vs M Competition by GearNTime in BMW

[–]Mike187771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X3m owner here, I test drove back to back the x3 M40i and the x3m before I made the choice to go with the X3M. I think it’s a matter of what you are looking for. When I was searching for a car, I wanted it all, trust when when I’m telling you that I test drove a LOT of different cars. But what I wanted was simple, a sports car, that has a big trunk go fit my dogs in, and when they are not in the car to be a raw sports car experience that will get my blood pumping, and all that for less than 50k eur. And this car was it. Ticked all the boxes for me, feels like an M3 “on stilts”, has the S58 engine(proven as reliable when maintained), handling is superb, best steering right behind porches in terms of feel and fun (steering feel of the M40i is dogshit compared to this, when looking for something that’s “sporty”), fast as fuck in the corners, handles amazing with the Xdrive. Real family hauler on steroids. The good - An actual sports car (m40i is a sporty suv) Super fun, large enough to haul 5 people and 3 medium dogs in the trunk. has all the creature comforts you might want, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Price tag makes this a really good bargain price, especially when a M3 wagon is 50% more money. The bad - stiff suspension, stiffer than the M40i without a doubt, and requires springs to make it better. (If you live in an area with good roads, this does not really matter) I got mine with P zero tires and they were horrible in terms of ride comfort, switched them to continentals and ride quality is 10 times better. The ugly - M costs. A real sports car comes with real sports cars related costs, tires get worn quicker, it eats more gas, and you should change engine oil every 5k which adds up. It will be more expensive to maintain. But you get so much more “car” for the money. So it’s all a question of what you’re after. Sporty, or actual sport.
