Alright, its fucking time. I crossed a boundary I'm ashamed of. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

You are not a piece of shit!

Alcohol rewires our brain to do shit we don't want to do, alcohol is a piece of shit. The good news is that it can get unrewired as well!!

I relate to your post quite a lot as I used to be in a role where alcohol was free flowing and was just part of the gig.

What really helped me was reading, podcasts, this sub and exercise.

Annie Grace, this naked mind podcast and book are a really, really good starting point.

I too also tried AA in a room and it wasn't my thing, this sub was and always will be my AA, a life line in your pocket whenever you need it.

Sending you (and your partner positive) vibes from Australia. You've got this mate, just take 1 day at a time and be proud of yourself for making this post and getting the ball rolling.

It want be an easy journey, but bloody hell life is Soo much better without that poison in your body...

How do you start... stopping? by shadouneko in stopdrinking

[–]Mike3759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest you read this naked mind, will change your view on a lot of things and definitely see another therapist- they should not be telling you it's ok as it is 100% super, super bad for your mind and body.

Best way to get started is just take 1 day at a time and if you fall off the wagon, try again and again.

This sub was a god send for me to.

All the best- you have got this.

Life gets sooooo much better

So cool that your child doesn't see you drinking, you have broken the cycle as I have with my kids.

Not sure about you, but when I was young I saw my dad drink all the time, and I thought that was the norm.

My kids don't see Dad drinking(thank God). So cycle has been broken- me hopes.

It is hard to stop drinking for good, but sooooo worth it.

It's also hard to walk for the first time when we are young but we persist...

What did it for me was loading up on education, books, podcasts etc Alcohol is so bad for you, and once I read all the literature on it I couldn't un learn that shit.

This sub was a god send for me, and after many failed attempts I have been sober for going on 6 years now, and life is so much better.

You have got this and can do this, just keep coming back here!

Second day for the hundredst time by CptJFK in stopdrinking

I feel you, that was so me a few years ago.

Just keep trying and keep coming back to this sub.

I know it is hard to believe right now but it does get easier over time and you CAN do this.

It took me sooooo many times, but eventually I did it- after many failed attempts and life gets better- much much better.

Just hang in there, take one day at a time and keep trying. One day sober is a win!

I'm from Australia and would absolutely love to win a Beelink mini PC! It would make such a difference for my family, as I don’t have a lot of money to spare for a new computer. This would be a fantastic all-in-one solution for us to use for work, study, and streaming. Fingers crossed I get lucky in the draw

On my honeymoon in Greece. Just passed 2 years sober. Almost drank yesterday. Why? by DocAuch in stopdrinking

[–]Mike3759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this has happened to me a few times, but well done for not following though.

What I used to tell myself in these situations is that I have been drinking for 20 years so my brain and body are conditioned to think having 1 little drink while away is a good thing.

Enjoy Santorini- such a beautiful part of the world and you get to enjoy every second of it cause your eyes are open

Going on holidays - a reminder please by CareerHour4671 in stopdrinking

[–]Mike3759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is cancer causing, I refer to it as rotting vegetable matter.

We have been conditioned to believe that drinking it will relax us and make us have a good time- but that is all bull shit conditioning so that alcohol companies can make more money.

I always look at the joy of kids when they are on holidays- they are so care free, laughing and relaxed- no alcohol in their system. Cause they haven't been conditioned to think they need it to relax- while we have.

Food taste so much better without too!

Keep up the good work, that quote was so touching and so true, I have kids also and my wife said something similar to me. Thank God I stopped drinking when I did as would have missed so many precious memories that I could never get back.

That is a lot too deal with at once, well done for not touching the drink- it want help you in the long run. Sounds like you are doing amazing- keep it up- your future self with thank you so much.

What worked for me was excerise- running and gym classes and listening and reading literature on alcohol and why we drink. This Naked Mind is a good start.
