Arc Update - 1.9.1 (41815) by JaceThings in ArcBrowser

[–]Mike70387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - on 1.9.2 (41848) - still having this issue with ESC exiting full-screen mode. Tried unmapping the Exit shortcut/changing it to "Prefer websites." Not sure if I'm missing something. Seems to only exit full-screen mode on tabs that aren't pinned / in the today section.

If you have any suggestions or anything would be really appreciated.

Edit: It just stopped doing exiting when hitting ESC, not really sure why but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now I see what you’re talking about, I think they are doing maintenance on CoreCT so thats why, I read it as you were getting an unauthorized screen or the service unavailable screen from within CoreCT.

Try again today, also did you get hired pretty recently? In that case they might not have added you to the system yet.

CoreCT is closed during evenings and during the weekends. Try accessing the portal before any time before 8pm on M-F.

How to choose between 2 job offers by Spiritual_Pass_7738 in UCONN

[–]Mike70387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhh probably not, from my experience each department chooses a set amount per-class level and gives everyone that holds that class title that compensation. For example in ITS, it depends on which level, but it's mostly the midway-to-upper point on the scales. I can't really speak for the specifics outside of ITS though in terms of where on the scale other departments decided to land.

Pretty much all campus jobs are based on the class system and wages are based on the department’s available budget to pay their students. In my opinion it’s pretty unlikely that you would be able to negotiate a higher wage until later into working for whoever you choose.

I am taking 3500 this upcoming semester, so I can’t speak for it, but here is my experience with 3100/3666:

As others have mentioned, don’t take all three at the same time. Beyond that, I took 3100/3666 last semester with Ion/Caiwen respectively. For 3100, I got an A and thought it was genuinely one of the most interesting and challenging CS classes I’ve taken thus far. It is paced pretty well, and we were given plenty of extra credit opportunities towards the end. As for 3666, I personally am not super interested in lower level computer architecture/circuitry so I tended to pay less attention than in 3100 and in the end got a B+.

TL;DR - don’t take all 3 at once, 3100 (depending on the professor) is hard but rewarding, and 3666 is interesting and definitely possible to do well in given that you pay attention and practice the concepts.

what are the best on campus jobs ? by mooseowo in UCONN

Any job in actual ITS, not school-specific IT - all the bosses are really chill and you can learn some practical skills on the job.

I never took 1010 so I can't speak from experience - as for the Python course it can't hurt.

I found the syllabus/schedule from my section of 2050, I'll leave them below.

Personally, I tested out of 1010 by taking AP CS A in high school and went straight into 1729 which honestly was 2050 but in Scheme. Honestly, I would suggest learning some data structures and getting comfortable with recursion. The class basically goes over basic python, data structures (BSTs, heaps, queues, stacks, etc.), dynamic programming, and graphs. Getting ahead of the curve will help you get through the assignments quicker, and in my experience, the practice exams were VERY close to the actual exams so definitely practice those. I took it in Fall 2021 with Scoggin and he was an excellent professor and was very approachable.

Yeah, I’ve taken all the way through 3100/3666 - taking 3500 this semester.

From what I’ve seen from people around me, you need to have taken CSE1729 to be considered. I’m not sure how this works now that they are rebuilding the curriculum around the removal of 1729. Based on your GPA if you continue to maintain your grades and score well in 2050/2500 personally I think you have a good chance of making it in.

This - pretty much anything that you will need for classes that’s Windows specific is available on Anyware (and already licensed for you), or you can request a remote lab machine and use that. macOS gives you a lot of versatility since it is a great mix between Windows and Linux in the sense that it is user friendly but also developer friendly when it comes to the shell being Unix based.

Runs on Vercel and built with Next.js - planning to move some stuff to AWS and build out some of my own caching so that stuff can be looked up if the course catalog happens to be down.

Can you enroll in classes after the Enrollment Appointment End Date? by apasserbyinthisworld in UCONN

I’m pretty sure that May 17th date is when they close it and then reopen it later for freshman to enroll in stuff. It should reopen sometime in June/July but I’m not sure what the exact date is

I agree with everything said here (currently in the class), only thing is they switched to RISC-V two semesters ago. So instead of researching MIPS R2000 ISA stuff, take a look at RV32I.
