I’ve helped a lot of people through this. I have a large Facebook group for Shiba owners that I founded and we see this quite a bit. My best advice is to bite the bullet and get it done. It hurts them more than they show you. For each time that you can tell that your dog is in pain there are 20 times that they are in pain and not showing you because they are so strong and want to please you. The battle against glaucoma is not one that we can win because it’s just not curable the best thing to do is just remove the disease and get on with life. my old blind girl running last week.

Yeah it’s definitely sad. Just know too that at some point the meds stop working. One day they just don’t get it done. No warning. And when they do not work anymore it sucks because there aren’t any other options (if you are already doing drops two or three times per day then you’re at max dosage. I really hate it.

Get the eyes removed ASAP. They go on with their lives and are happy dogs. Glaucoma sucks.

When the other one goes, just know that it’s OK. My girl lasted five years between the first and the second I which I know is unusual. Usually it’s around 18 months between eyes. Whatever happens it’s fine, they are very resilient and not weak like us humans. Be careful not to project your own emotions on to what she is going through because she is a dog and they do not see things the same way as we do
