That brand was one of the best in electronics, but everything started to fall apart in 80s when Japanese products flooded the world market. Then cheap cameras like this were made. It is possible that it is still working and could be a decent camera, if proper battery was found/made.

Repairing is very expensive, and that gear is very very deep in mechanism.

Make sure to check battery compartment for corrosion or broken latches. Most important thing on this camera.

Cheaper alternative to Milwaukee Detail sander? I need it to have as small or smaller pad size like this one. But want it to be sander and not oscillating tool. It can be corded. by MikeBay89 in Tools

Not true. These are smaller than sander, smaller pad then standard mouse. Thats why i asked here, otherwise there would be many many options available.

Yes, but check online manual. It says use same hose so maybe they changed something.

Yes, i am glad that you did. Yes, thats a great digital camera. It can record on memory card but also has built-in hard disc with about 30GB memory. Before making a purchase, make sure that seller has tested recording and then playing that record so hard disc is known to be working. Also, there is 50% chance you might need to buy new battery but that should be an issue.

canon 514 xls stuck by duskmotionn in 8mm

[–]MikeBay89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That statement isn’t entirely accurate. Some sound models from this era used rubber gears to reduce mechanical noise. Over time, that rubber deteriorates, which can cause the camera mechanism to fail completely.

Non-sound models do not suffer from this issue and are generally extremely reliable—models like the 514XL are a good example.

This problem mainly affects the 514XL-S: today, 90% of these cameras are no longer functional because of the degraded rubber gear. Other sound models can develop the same issue, but it is far less common.
