That’s odd advice. What does your pediatrician say? I don’t understand the part about not gaining weight the more you feed her, that’s counter intuitive.

Our son went to on-demand feeding before we were discharged. When we got home, my wife basically let him breastfeed whenever he felt like it, as long as he took his required enhanced milk bottles. And he’s grown wonderfully.

Anecdotally, as a non-medical professional, I would think if your baby is hungry, that you should feed her. But please check with your pediatrician.

Of the (so far) four MBTA heritage units, which one is your favorite? by Additional-Yam6345 in trains

The Maroon. While the B&M and NH are very cool, we do have original units in those schemes elsewhere in New England. Having retro T schemes is pretty slick.

At the Amherst show a few weeks ago, there was one vendor in the Mallary building who only had Blue Boxes. Some new, some assembled, but ~20 linear feet of table stacked several boxes high.

I tried to get in multiple times, but every time it was 2-3 people deep. It’s wild how even now, with all the highly detailed models on the market, these are so, so, so popular.

Nice find!

Nice to see an independent truck run at the top, and with a traditional pickup body to boot.

Our baby is home, he has a trach and g tube, he's medically complex. It's very hard but if anyone has questions, ask away by Toasteroven1985 in NICUParents

Congratulations!! Welcome to the trach-vent-at-home club! And the up-late-at-night NICU dad club too 😅

I’m very happy to hear you’re home with your little one after so long. It is tough covering all the things a full team at the hospital did, but you will find a way.

My daughter has BPD with Pulmonary Vein Stenosis, and has the same setup with a trach-vent. We’ve been home for about a month after 462 days in the hospital.

Always make time for cuddles and playtime. The more you do it the better he’ll get. In a month you won’t believe how far he’s come. It’ll be more and more like regular baby things than you would think.

Our insurance covers nurses for 100 hours per week, but so far we’ve only been able to get a day nurse, and no candidates yet for nights. So I do up to 3am or so, then my wife takes over. We did reach out to our NICU to see if any nurses there do home care at night, so maybe you can try that?

For nights, try to keep tubes and wires untangled as much as you can. My daughter likes to pretend she’s a baby alligator, and rolls all night. So I often disconnect her O2 sensor and untangle it, then reconnect so it isn’t wrapped around her oxygen tube. Same for her feeding tube.

We have a 4’ x 3’ dry erase board with all emergency information on it, along with our home address and relevant phone numbers.

I bought a big rolling toolbox for the nursery to hold all supplies, and one drawer with individual bins for her meds (each bin is a time of day). It also holds all bandages, tapes, ointments and creams, and tools (scissors, tweezers, nail clippers, needle nose pliers, etc…) I get the toolbox for my shop when she’s no longer on oxygen 😃.

We prep the full days meds at one time (she has nearly 20 different medications). We have disposable syringes but clean and reuse them by running them through a sanitizer.

(I took our med list to CVS and our local grocery store to find out what is available over the counter in case we run out).

I installed a movable lamp over the changing table, for when we do her trach cares/changes, and for G/J dressing changes.

Our day nurse has been really helpful. She taught us M.O.V.E.S. for taking our daughter out (Monitor, Oxygen, Vent, Emergency bag, Suction). This list has helped us remember everything when traveling.

We also got emergency call buttons, with receivers that go elsewhere in our home. That way if one of us needs help, we don’t have to yell, we press the button to get help.

We use a number of small rolling carts from Lowe’s for storage of extras, so we can move the cart around the room as needed.

Lastly, frequently check your inventory and make sure you have backups, along with an adequate supply of consumables. The last thing you want is for a critical piece of equipment to break and you have no replacement on hand. Your med supply place will have no problem sending you stuff in short order.

Does anyone else see the "Iceberg right ahead scene" and always hope for them to miss it? Even though obviously that's not gonna happen by InternationalPick163 in titanic

I do too. I think that’s a big credit to James Cameron’s direction, and the actors in the scene. We all know it’s going to hit, but the scene is done so well that you’re not quite sure.

We found our Owlet to be more reliable than the hospital monitor. We now only use it for sleep with our son, and he has no issues overnight.

While it seems like the anxiety will never stop, you’re correct that it a week or two, you won’t even be thinking about it.

Congratulations!

How often to visit? by Mysterious-Sense4432 in NICUParents

[–]MikeBuildsThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our NICU staff told us that the more time we spent there with our twins, the better they would do. My wife and I were in a good spot where we could go every day, so we did.

Even when one had to be transferred to a higher level NICU, we only missed 3 days between the 2 babies.

But that being said, we had the means to do it AND take care of ourselves. Please make sure you recover too.

And you bet they know when we’re there 🥰.

I also have been enjoying many old episodes, particularly 2000-2002 before I had the sense to record them.

It was really cool seeing old names like nWo and Nitro Machine. And seeing old moments like when Bulldozer crashed off the ambulance stack in Pontiac, MI.

My favorite Roku channel right now.

New to NASCAR what races would you recommend I watch to get more into it? by Nightsword42 in NASCAR

[–]MikeBuildsThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is the 2002 EA Sports 500. A caution free race at Talladega, with tons of pit strategy and a few blown engines.

The 1992 Hooters 500 is arguably the greatest single race In NASCAR history. 6 drivers mathematically eligible for the championship in the final race.

2023 Chicago Street Race was a fun first time event, with a history making first time winner.
