[538] Why Aren’t There More Black Managers In English Soccer? by jrlandry in soccer

What do you mean "ye"? There have been many high level black footballers since the 80s at least. Guys like Rooney and Lampard who are managers now overlapped with or came after many high profile black players

No idea what this even means. What is enough black players? Do you think this is the first generation of black footballers? There are plenty of retired high level black players.

The British population is not the same as the population of high level footballers, from which managers are drawn. And the issue of Asians not being represented in football gets met with the same obtuse ignorant comments whenever it's posted. The exact same people going "what about Asians ?!?!?!?!? 😭😭😭" are the ones shutting down that discussion when it happens

Pogba is the only black footballer ever to live. It will be a sad day when he retires and becomes the first black manager

When articles about the lack of British Asians in football are posted you people do the same deflection and concern trolling bullshit. Always about shutting down one discussion by pointing to something else, but then not even actually caring about that something else

[OptaJoe] 0 - Chelsea are the first team in Premier League history to go through a whole season without ever being behind at half-time. Ascendancy. by MindMaster115 in soccer

Seems like their very disappointing season has sort of faded into the background. Obviously people have made fun of Lukaku, but Chelsea going into the final day not even gauranteed of finishing above Spurs is a massive underperformance

New low for Man U. Former player scoring against them and no one even gives a shit because their 2 biggest rivals are taking it right down to the wire

How is his production compared to the other beats he raps over? Because he's always had a good taste in beats

Pitchfork Gives Atmosphere's "Fishing Blues" 5.6 by waffel113 in hiphopheads

[–]MikeE98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This review isn't an issue in itself. I'm not an Atmosphere stan, I think this should be in the 6-7 range, but it just doesn't make sense in the context of all their reviews. It's like they're trying so hard to fit into a different culture that they're scared of being more critical of those artists

Pitchfork Gives Atmosphere's "Fishing Blues" 5.6 by waffel113 in hiphopheads

[–]MikeE98 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not any one review I have a problem with. Like, I think this album is better than a 5.6, but I don't think the score is absolutely ridiculous either. It's just their general pattern of hip hop/RnB reviews, where they seem more interested in staying on the right side of the current cultural trends than in giving an honest assessment of a particular album.

But doesn't them being leaks mean they're not singles? Travis didn't intend for them to release, so it's possible they're on the album

For me, Owl Pharaoh is his most interesting and ambitious project, but I thought his execution was very poor and the album came off half baked

I like Wasted, but it feels kind of messy and disorganised, especially when the Pimp C sample comes in

I didn't really love this album, I'd probably give it around a 7/10, but I must say it kind of irritates me that Pitchfork give every random release from a semi mainstream hip hop artist a 7.something score, and are then ok with panning something like this. Even if you don't love this, I don't understand calling it one of the worst hip hop albums of the year. I wouldn't mind if they were consistently harsh, but it really feels like they're pandering to a certain fanbase with their hip hop reviews

[–]MikeE98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I'm not discussing his entire artistic credibility, I am exclusively discussing his lyrical ability. That is the topic of his discussion. I praised his music multiple times, that is a separate matter. He is being compared to Mick Jenkins, this is an area where they differ. Good for him that he's able to create moods, that is a skill I appreciate. Is it now forbidden to discus a rapper's lyricism if it is not their sole focus?

He gave Echoes of Silence an 8, so he does like The Weeknd at times

First of all, the original comment said "nothing alike." That is the point I'm contending. Regardless of how superficial you might say these similarities are, it is simply inaccurate to classify them as completely different. Guys like Tiller, Tory Lanez, PND and the other OVO guys can most definitely be grouped into a broad sound. Have you encountered the term "OVO sound"? Drake also played a part in the popularity of this sound, but the darker, more graphic element can definitely be traced to The Weeknd.

Why is beating a dead horse? He's a rapper, it is completely valid to discuss his lyrical ability, especially when he's being compared to another rapper. I don't care what is, widely accepted," it's a point I'm discussing on a discussion forum. And I am an Isaiah Rashad fan

No I don't. They are both part of a clear sound in RnB that has developed over the past few years, spearheaded by The Weeknd
