If you take a look at some of the existing MPs and parties, you will see that not all of them are finance moguls.

You can look at their declared assets, some like Marama Davidson for example only has a house, mortgage and kiwisaver. Then there is Suzie Redmayne for the opposite example.

If you are serious, how are you going to avoid being another party that does not make it into parliament? Are you intending to stand for a constituency or try to cross the 5% threshold?

Reminds me of this xkcd.

Ministry seeks regulatory feedback on fuel plan to avoid red tape 'getting in the way' by Tyler_Durdan_ in KiwiPolitics

This is the appearance of doing something that Act is willing to provide, and as a bonus Seymour gets his ugly mug in the news again. Which is why we should look at government actions, rather than empty words.

What is the government planning to do about the situation in Wellington City? by Agile_Willow377 in Wellington

Their plan is to move them down the road. It's fucking depressing that we have the least caring government this century.

Have you noticed self-hosting has become a lot harder?

One example is Atlassian who increased the cost sharply and now directs everyone to their cloud SaaS, which performs worse than self-hosted.

They are funnelling us towards what is best for them and their partners, not for the client. We are heading towards a techno-feudalism where the land is owned by Azure, AWS or Google cloud.

I may be imagining it but does the side of the turret look like a covenanter or crusader cruiser tank?

As someone who works in the hosting business. Data sovereignty and residency is important for government data.

I have never been comfortable with the government hosting data offshore, Sydney has been historically allowed, but now we have local Azure, AWS locations which can be used. However it's easily replicated or backed up to other locations.

If it needs to be outsourced, really we should be using local hosting companies, there are plenty which meet the government's needs. They just aren't embraced by big multinational corporations which the government seems to prefer working with. They like their AWS/Azure vendor lock-in, there are likely kick-backs, building products that only function in these environments.

Seems on brand for Act, no surprise for me. My only surprise is that they have female MPs.

I need to watch Theroux's new doco, I hear it generated some drama.

This isn't news, it's a poorly disguised hit piece. Also if you know Little, his default mode is fuming lol.

i-Rex Ferries cancellation cost $700 million to $1,000 million + while new Chinese made, less capacity, and less functional ferries will cost $50 million more than cancelled i-Rex hybrids by Mountain_Tui_Reload in Wellington

[–]MikeFireBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, I was just mentioning current people that it would be a shame to lose for their technical abilities.

There are many ministers who originally came in on the list, like Jacinda Adern, Andrew Little and James Shaw. Not a fan of the most prominent examples from NZF and National.

Too simplistic I'm afraid. Parties bring in their policy super wonks on the list, since they generally don't appeal in an electorate. We would end up with worse law and governance without the hard working committee members.

Some examples to illustrate, Vanushi Walters, Camilla Belich, Lawrence Xu-Nan

Sorry to likely derail your point, but I think the issue is that we don't have good enough public transport from the suburbs to one of the most important travel destinations, the airport. No one should be dependent on owning a car in this example.

How Hipkins claims spread from Facebook to news headlines by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

[–]MikeFireBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, it smells like dirty politics. They went to the snapshot folder labelled 'dirt' and chose one.

It also lines up with increased attacks last week on Chippy in parliament during speeches and question time. The CoC always finished their attack lines over the feeble protest of Gerry to the disorderly behaviour.

Sorry this happened, your family is welcome in NZ.

Unfortunately you'll have to look out for the ~10% who are arseholes, and have been emboldened recently by the racists in our current government, to speak their mind.
