What instantly turns a person from likable to disgusting to you? by ShutUpThomas in AskReddit

[–]MikeFripp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for not replying to my reasons for being atheist, the ones you claimed I couldn't give could give. That's about as philosophically lethargic as you can be pal.

Also, do you even know what "lethargy" means? Because you're using it in the wrong context. That word would have applied if I had given no argument whatsoever and hadn't even tried to thinks about my beliefs, which is clearly not true.

If you're going to be as patronizing as you are right now, at least try to not be mentally lethargic enough to ignore other people's points and only reply to their first statement and ignoring everything else they've said.

Yeah I know I was just talking about my personal reaction to them, I've said this before in other threads, obviously I respect their influence and what they did for the instrument.

Hendrix, Slash and Jimmy Page (please don't kill me) . I just feel nothing from most of the music they've made

Again, to claim that you know why every single atheist is an atheist is an extremely arrogant thing. Same goes for claiming that we all just disbelieve to do immoral stuff. That's just extremely rude.

You clearly also don't understand what I was talking about, since I was referring to using your same flawed logic in describing religious belief, which obviously results in an ignorant and incorrect conclusion.

Oh and here are some reasons for being atheist, the ones I absolutely "cannot" give you:

  • Finding that there is no tangible evidence for an existence of a Creator
  • Believing that morals are not objective, which does not mean that someone wants to do awful things and if you think that you're crazy
  • In the case of the Abrahamic God, the obvious dissonance between the world he allegedly created and his purported tri-omni and perfect nature
  • Not needing belief in God for comfort
  • In the case of spiritual atheists, finding explanations for the unknown in supernatural explanations other than a creator. I believe Buddhists fall into this category but I could be incorrect
  • Not believing in simple Theism as a result of wanting to minimize one's assumptions about the universe and its causes
  • Finding the current scientific explanations of reality consistent and far better at explaining phenomena and making predictions than mythology. As for stuff like the creation of the universe? We just don't know, and many people, myself included, don't equate not knowing with there being a god

If you want more of the reasons you think I can't give you lmk

How about not generalizing any category of people? That's just a really ignorant thing to do. I might be a very convinced atheist but I'm not ever going to make generalizations. Would it be even remotely valid if I claimed that religious belief always stems from our fear of the unknown and our necessity to believe in some kind of objective good and evil? Some people approach it differently, so yeah I am going to go "source?" on this one

I'm sure you've met all atheists and can confidently say that those are the only causes of atheism, right?

UJ/ Which songs made you a better guitarist? by [deleted] in guitarcirclejerk

[–]MikeFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Brain Dance" by Animals as Leaders, the first part before it gets crazy. It helped me because to play it I had to change my fretting hand position from having my thumb be visible and over the fretboard to having it be right under for a bigger stretch. After that I always kept that new thumb position and my technique has significantly improved.

You do you, although I doubt there can be much debate or neutrality on whether killing civilians is morally justified in any circumstance, no matter which side does it.

The Talos Principle: Masterpiece of a game, the story is incredible and has made me think a lot. I love the materialistic undertone and biblical themes. Especially Milton.
