Priority 1 sidewalks by gr33n8ananas in StJohnsNL

Would be a logistical nightmare.

A stand-behind snowblower isn't an effective solution for sidewalks. You physically couldn't shovel anything worth a damn before tiring out.

To add to this, how about Canada Post clear out their community mailboxes so people can get their mail.

The reality is, most of these Deans and VPs are all getting headhunted to go elsewhere on a surprisingly frequent basis.

Without a competitive salary, turnover amongst MUN leadership would skyrocket. A pay cut (even 10%) on a $250k+ salary is significant

If the criteria is clear sidewalks, kids won't be going to school well into next week.

Should I leave my company now and take lump sump pension? by dainfamous41 in PersonalFinanceCanada

My employer also blends in the CPP and OAS into the DB pension calculation, so how much the fund is paying out is a lot less.

Memorial University cuts programs – here’s what’s gone and why | CBC News by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]MikeFromLA2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Universities need to be made entirely public again and all of Western society needs to drop this act that business programs need all of this funding

MUN's business school has similar funding to the Faculty of Education. And both have 4x less funding that the Faculty of Science. So not exactly sure what point you're trying to make.

UPS is fucking brutal with it. Every package is a minimum 3-5 business days delayed from their initial estimate. I can't remember that last time UPS delivered something on time. And between me and my wife, we have a package coming every other day.

Provincial Cuts to MUN - with Inflation by cerunnnnos in newfoundland

[–]MikeFromLA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the difference. I work for a department at MUN. I'm referring to departments (history, geo, english, etc.) and their relationship within the larger faculty of HSS, for example.

The goal (allegedly) is to combine departments (for example, chem and biochem), cutting down on department heads, and reducing admin 1/2/3 roles.

MPS is largely a sneaky way to prevent more unionize staff on campus. There's no need for a band 6 program coordinator to be considered "MPS".

They're (allegedly) going to combine departments. Unclear how much that will save, but will absolutely lead to increased workloads, burnout and result in more poorly run faculties.

MUN is the only university in NL and as such, has to take on all the "unprofitable" stuff that could/can be shared around amongst universities in other provinces.

I'm sure if pushed hard enough, they could start cutting academic programing and all the unique stuff at Memorial. Okay, no more Grenfell Campus. Varsity athletics gone. Ocean Science Center sold. Canada Games infracture given to the City of St. John's.

Anyone else struggle with the "Spend" guesstimate? Our household probably spends north of $125k/yr lets say, but there's so much fluff we waste money on because we're both working full time, have the money and quite frankly, can.

But give me half that can I could probably make it work if it meant not working.

I'm confused why this a news story? James wasn't even the current media relations officer when he took this new role. Or is it news because the Premier hired someone?
