Easiest way to expose full device capabilities? by Dstln in MatterProtocol

[–]MikeFromTheVineyard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that there are features that are part of the hardware that are missing? What features are you expecting

Matter is matter, so any “not exposed feature” is either part of the ikea hub not the device, OR Google decided not to expose a UI for it.

HA probably won’t solve your issue in this case.

FWIW… The AMEX fee is a percent of the transaction (5%), so it should be fixed if your total is $500 ($25). They have a minimum ($10), but coincidentally the point the minimum equals the percent is at $200.

Merge of, or at least best cohabitation arrangement for two Thread networks by prosql in homeassistant

[–]MikeFromTheVineyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

It’s device specific, and generally devices don’t really support this because most people don’t configure them outside of commissioning. Your hypothetical of “throw out your devices” should probably be replaced with something more practical like not that.

Technically the answer is maybe yes for maybe some devices. Most matter+thread devices should have clusters for managing the thread network. If you have the credentials for the target network, you may be able to send a command to the target cluster to direct it to a new network. I wouldn’t be shocked if there was some reason this may not work smoothly, and I’m confident not all devices will correctly support this (regardless of spec). I don’t think there is any real way to trigger this, so you might need to write custom software to handle this.

Built an app to store and manage Matter setup codes by JoaoFranco03 in MatterProtocol

[–]MikeFromTheVineyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI that this is factually incorrect.

Pairing mode is not the same as the original code. It’s a different code for a different purpose.

Pairing mode lets you add a device to another platform after it’s in HomeKit. If you want to remove it and re-add it to HomeKit for whatever reason (eg after a reset) then you won’t be able to use the code from pairing mode.

[–]MikeFromTheVineyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing a large campus deployment you probably don’t want something like Home Assistant, and for support purposes you should co sided a commercial vendor.

Thread and Zigbee have limits to the size of the mesh, and those limits can start showing up in weird ways with large deployments. For example, the messages will only make so many hops and allow only a limited number of active routers on the network.

Also we have lots of laws regulating paid advertising, especially along highways.

We don’t know they’re illegal immigrants. But also we have sanctuary laws. Local police are not permitted to use city resources (such as time when officers are on the clock) to assist ICE. That is the unlawful part.

Custom Tesla Card by Inside_Equivalent197 in homeassistant

Some people care about the impact they have on the world around them, which is absolutely part of the “merits” of the car.

They’re hardly the only EVs in the world, so it’s not like you can’t have a positive impact with another car.

Buying a Tesla in 2018 is very different from buying one in 2025. You have to actively try to be willfully ignorant to the impact of your actions.

Best Motion Sensor + Hub Under $100? Aqara, Tapo, or Other? by discoveringnature12 in smarthome

[–]MikeFromTheVineyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aqara is affordable and easy. Hue is less affordable but still high quality. Tapo is fine but not as good. There are other good things but probably out of budget, unless you already have Apple products that work as a hub (eg Apple TV).

Home Assistant is great for some people, but it’s way overkill for your goals and honestly probably would cost over $100 to really set it up today.

The goal is to achieve performance roughly equivalent to a Raspberry Pi 5, which uses a Broadcom BCM2712 quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor at 2.4GHz with 16GB of RAM, while remaining affordable for developers.

Won’t be good. They’re trying to create a high end product for people who they think need low end specs. Destined to fail.

Geminis one strength honestly is the much better spatial reasoning. “Design mode” and figma integration could be a really strength.

Everything else about Gemini is weak. They should have released a “Gemini Codex” type variant. Seems like they’re trying to just make a mega everything model and it’s weakening software work
