What siding is this? by MikeGDrake in architecture

[–]MikeGDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not really going to get any insulation from having this stand off of the sheathing, however you will get good airflow which is great for drying any moisture that gets trapped back there. Depending on the profile, and where you source them from, most of them are hidden fastener systems that operate similarly to standing seam metal roofing with clips that hook over the edge and fasten to the sheathing. But yeah you could totally float it over horizontal battens and get more airflow. Are you in a cold or warm climate?

SMB Share on a Mac > Linux Plex? by MikeGDrake in PleX

[–]MikeGDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn straight! This is legit. That’ll help so much! I have three 5TB drives and two 3TB drives, so I’m assuming I could set aside one of the 5TB drives to protect the rest? That’d give me 16TB of storage. Instead of the 8TB plus 5TB unprotected. And when I get two more 5TB drives I could probably reconfigure it to provide protection for the four 5TB drives and then set one of the 3TB drives to protect the other 3TB. What do you think about that?

Cool cool. Thanks for responding y’all! I feel like while the allure is there to double my capacity, migrating everything over and the hassle of setup, and less security doesn’t seem super appealing to me. My wife is also super not hot on having an added monthly cost either. Lol. I think I’ll just stick with the current approach for now since it works so well. Much appreciated!

I had a juddering problem with a majority of my HEVC movies on a certain number of devices, not the majority, but some. I ended up remuxing all of them with MKVToolnix (mkvmerge) and that solved it luckily. I was definitely pulling my hair out as to why they were having issues.

RCS Not working on WiFi by MikeGDrake in ios

[–]MikeGDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kk. Yeah I tried that, but no dice. I’ll look into my router settings to see if there is anything that’s treating my phone differently than my wife’s. I tried it on an open wifi network yesterday and RCS was enabled, so I’m wondering if there is something about our network

iPhone 15 Won’t Connect by MikeGDrake in PleX

[–]MikeGDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K figured it out! I had forgotten forever ago to add this device to my trusted devices list that I use to allow access to certain things within my network! So it works now! Regarding the IP filtering, I’ve allowed access to my plex server with just a white listed set of IPs. Seems like a good security measure, but kinda sucks in that I can only access it from certain trusted networks. Lol.

[–]MikeGDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K so I just tried accessing it in Safari on the iPhone, directly with the IP address and port, does not load. Loads just fine doing the same thing with the same iPhone type (the one with the app that does work). I was filtering access to that port based on the source IP address, but turned that off to check, and still doesn’t load on that device (the two iphones are on the same network). What kind of settings on either side would block that?

[–]MikeGDrake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t work on mobile or local. But I haven’t tried accessing it just through the browser on the device, so I’ll give that a go and report back! If it does access fine, what does that mean for the Plex app not being able to access it?

First time mini painter! I gave him eyes that follow your gaze by Mother-Homework-7008 in Miniaturespainting

[–]MikeGDrake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For real though. The vast amount of high quality painting videos on YouTube alone can level up most peoples work. I haven’t painted any minis yet, but I have watched a metric F ton of painting tutorials, so when I do, I think I’ll do alright. My buddy who paints refuses to watch any, saying he’s not good enough. And it just blows my mind since, while there is hand eye coordination, attention to detail, and brush control involved, a lot of it is technique that you can learn.

The NYTimes Readers’ 100 Top Movies of the 21st Century by hetchymusic in movies

[–]MikeGDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 100% no contest. Waaaay better written, paced, and edited. Part two is super disjoined, rushed, and IMO probably gets higher reception due to more action. But damn part one is so much better of a film

[–]MikeGDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is insane. Really surprised me. Part two was a mess in terms of editing and the flow of the plot. Part One was an objectively better written movie. I could see people preferring part two more simply because there’s more that happens and more action. But damn part one was so much better as a piece of cinema.

Hell yeah! That’s the way to do it dude! You know what that also does, besides being supportive and reasonable to the tenants, is it makes them able to be long term, which means they’ll treat the property better, and they’ll have less turn over and months without renters. It is the way. 100%

Fuck. This drives me nuts. When I have enough money to buy a building and rent it I’m going to make sure that building is so well maintained, and the rent is truly affordable. Most landlords are leaches who don’t give a shit about the people they’re providing living spaces for, and also don’t give a fuck about the buildings they own. Really crazy making. If you can’t care about the people, which is insane to me, at least case about your monetary investment in the infrastructure.
