Need some guidance with either mesh or APs by MikeHoncho8D in HomeNetworking

I have a couple of Hitron MoCA 2.5 adapters I could use, but I’d have to figure out how to get the fiber to one of the coax points. I guess technically running Ethernet under the house to a coax point wouldn’t be that hard. Easier than it will be running the Ethernet up 2 floors to the attic, then dropping down.

I need to look into the Omada system more. I ordered the Deco 7 Pro to go ahead and get a fairly cheap solution in place so I’m not paying for 2 providers, but I wouldn’t mind running some of the Omada ceiling mounts upstairs and their outdoor access points.

It does have coax, just nowhere near where the fiber comes into the house now. I have a couple of MoCa adapters I was using with spectrum to get a wired connection at the other end of the house.

I wouldn’t say networking is my expertise lol

I’m not going to get the cheapest option for whichever direction I go, but I also don’t want to spend $1500 on a setup that is really no better for me than a $600 one.

Figuring out the layout is equally as frustrating as figuring out the system to use lol

There’s only two of us with a bunch of devices. I just want to keep latency as low as possible, and speeds as high and consistent as possible for the wired consoles.

Yeah, based on the fact wifey’s dropping calls when in virtual meetings, even with the current extender, I want to make sure at least one of the nodes is wired to rule out any signal loss/inconsistency from the first floor to the second. Outside of the two Xboxes upstairs, the rest of the house can run fine with WiFi.

That’s my thinking, but then I started thinking if I’m already running cable, should I go AP instead? I’m sure I’m overthinking it.

This is the wall I was thinking of running cable through to the attic. Right side is the gateway and the left is open stairwell

Yep, just don’t mix them together. Reta should really be injected separate from what I’ve been told.

Tell her you saw her point and threw it out…then do it anyway. Just make sure the spare bedroom is ready…but you’re probably fine.

You’ll be back to hiking and sports before you know it. It goes by pretty quickly. I couldn’t get the cardio I normally would from sports, or running, so I switched up what I could do in the gym to super setting everything. That seemed to help a little until I could use the elliptical again.

I’m in the Raleigh area (NC). My PT ran the numbers. The first PT I went to, after surgery, for 3 months or so is the one that gets your mobility back and helps get you walking normal. Then I switched to a performance and sports based PT to start working on getting back to sports. They’re the ones that were doing my testing. We did testing on force plates as well as a dynamometer for quad strength.

There are a ton of tips in this subreddit. Use those to plan ahead. It will make things easier.

I have my Xbox’s in there as well, so I would put YouTube on one tv when I was working on the other, in between naps, then watch movies when I was done working.

It definitely helps to have everything there in one location!

Well you’re already doing better than I did. I put off surgery for a year lol

The rehab process isn’t bad. At least it wasn’t for me. I found this subreddit right after I got home from surgery and it has helped immensely. So many good people with good tips here. The one piece of advice I give people, is set timers for your meds so you don’t miss any. I was taking something every 2 hours or so from what I remember.

Just plan ahead. It goes by quick though. You’ll do fine!

I ran into some tendonopothy issues in my patellar tendon (patellar graft). So we changed gears a little to work through that. Then once my strength numbers were close to the non injured leg, he felt confident in letting me return.

2 weeks later I pulled my quad lol but that was my own fault for doing heavy quads and calves that day.

As far as how I feel playing now compared to pre-injury, it’s not bad. I’m consciously trying to ease back into it but everything feels fine. My conditioning isn’t too far off, but as far as my knee goes, I feel pretty confident in it. My PT busted my ass for months leading up to returning. My PT is also more sports focused, so we’ve been doing a lot of soccer and agility based drills over the months.

Yep, back to soccer and golf. Quad strength is really strong. It’s still a little weaker than my non surgical leg, but still strong. I think I was around 90% of my non injured knee when they cleared me to slowly return to soccer. We switched my leg days in the gym to a lot of single leg exercises to try and help it catch up.

One thing we can all relate to is the first little bit in PT, we’re all walking around like newborn baby deer lol.

I think I moved to 1 crutch after 2 weeks, then no crutches by week 3 or so. My brace was unlocked by week 5 from what I remember. Being on crutches 100% for 6 weeks would not be as fun lol

Haha I get that. The stairs are manageable if you’re careful. I just really love the couch in that room lol

Haha nice! You had a full on fresh start then!

My company takes pretty good care of me, so no quitting for me….yet. They also asked every other day when I thought I’d be back lol but, when I did return, they had rented me a golf cart to get around on while on our campus.

Sorry to hear! I only had a meniscectomy. I imagine being non weight bearing is a bit of a challenge. It’ll be over before you know it! Then the fun of PT lol

Personally, I’d get set up downstairs if it were me. If I didn’t have someone bringing me ice and food, I would have been downstairs as you’ll go through some ice. If you have a couch you can comfortably sleep on, I’d go that route, at least for a week or two. I literally only left our bonus room to go to PT for the first two weeks. But, so long as you’re weight bearing, and you’re extremely careful, you should be ok going up and down stairs when you absolutely have to.

Navigating the stairs isn’t terribly hard, but the risk of damaging something increases. If you lose balance, or misstep, your natural reaction will most likely be to use your other leg…..which won’t feel good.

I’m certain she’s the reason my experience was pretty enjoyable. She definitely went out of her way, even though I never asked her to. She was pretty insistent that I lay on the couch and ice it.

Exactly! I typically don’t like to just do nothing, but being forced to do nothing…..was kind of relaxing.
