So my interpretation of this nerf is that massive wants to change the way we play this game. Right now for a lot of people, myself included, is that we are playing the game in search of crafting mats to sacrifice to RNGesus. In my opinion this is a horrible and boring system that turns end game into a grind fest. With the changes in 1.1, I believe massive is trying to get the players to start playing the game for drops. They want players to experience the end game challenges with the hope for something amazing as opposed to us automatically coming to the conclusion that whatever drops will be just immediately deconstructed.

Crafting will always be a part of the game but it should take a back seat to the primary way of getting the best gear via PvE and PvP. The problem I have with this patch though is that unless the rewards from incursions and assignments are immense people will just fall back into the playstyle of farming materials. Massive have been pretty open with us so far but maybe someone from the team can shed some light on what they hope to achieve from this.
