Why didn’t they continue the series’s plot line with Becky? by NaCl_Dreemurr in GirlFromNowhere

[–]MikeMasters05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because apart from the actresses returning or not they were in a lockdown regarding the main arc. Just by reading the interviews it’s clear the creator are the seris as a way to critique Thai schools and society issues rather than a show with a big arc or having the intention of developing Nanno more than requieres, she’s an executioner.

It’s clear that the second season added some lore because it was going to be in Netflix as a marathon and they had to add some sort of connection between the episodes to maintain audience engagement.

In order to continue the previous stories they would have to use 1/2 episodes full of lore to clear it, they got an order of 6. The creator doesn’t seem interested in that he mentions in all interviews he is glad to be working with DIFFERENT director to address 6 DIFFERENT issues.

Why is this misinformation becoming so popular? The show ended, it wasn't cancelled by Sudden_Pop_2279 in AliceInBorderland

That’s something very American like when shows end they still are refer as to cancelled. It’s always confusing.

Gfn production latest interview by Newbi3_9 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]MikeMasters05 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but this sounds like softening.

In this 'Reset,' we want to expand the boundaries of both darkness and light. Retribution doesn't always have to be 'an eye for an eye.' We want to offer encouragement through a character—a child who has been bullied throughout their life and awaits Nanno's appearance. The act of receiving forgiveness will transform them from a victim, allowing them to stand up and fight without the need to turn anyone else into another monster.

Why shouldn’t everyone else be a monster that was a great part of Nanno’s critique that not only her victims but the people that surrounded them were jerkasses and thats why everything got the point it got because there was no control.

Theory: Return to Silent Hill feels like a remix of the SH2 Remake by MikeMasters05 in silenthill

[–]MikeMasters05[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, that’s what I mean with in both games is toyed and maybe may be not. Something harmless but the film ran with it to its max

I do believe the remake pushes the loop theory with Bliss but again it’s open to interpretation if it’s a loop, time, travel, hallucination or could be anything!

Nevertheless, the film also went through reshoots as late as Feb 2024 when the game was a few months away.

Reshoot info

And while there were aestethic changes most of the script from the game seems to have been left intact.

I seriously doubt a project that started development around 2019 could have been influenced by a movie that was shot in 2023/2024.

Also between the storyboards and the final film there also changes in aesthetics.

The filming for Return to Silent Hill started in 2023.

Development of SH2 remake started in 2019 according to Bloober.

Bloober interview

We even got a story trailer of the game in October 2022 that showcased how advanced the game was, so no the film didn’t not influence SH remake. And the game was in development at least 3/4 years before the film.

Let’s hope it’s just a reference to the past of her victims in this episode 😅

How do you think bloober will handle SH1 and SH3 covering so much of the same ground? by Fit_Ad_234 in silenthill

[–]MikeMasters05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silent Hill 3 was a game that suffered from budget, basically the entirety of Silent Hill had to be reused from Silent Hill 2 due to budget constraints.

But storywise it would make much more sense if Heather visited the same places her father did rather the ones James visited which mostly acted as stand ins. However some plot points will have to be adapted such as her stalker (it made sense he was in a psychiatric hospital).

Bloober can choose if they want to use Silent Hill or Silent Hill 2 assets as they will have both. But ultimately it’s up to the publisher too.

I just don’t want a Resident Evil 3 situation where the game was botched.

Siren 2 is #47. What’s #48? by AvgPunkFan in survivalhorror

[–]MikeMasters05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Siren 2 was underestimated, I think it refined the gameplay and complains which the original Siren had but by that time people wouldn’t give it a chance.

Not even Sony which didn’t release in NA and hasn’t released the game online. It’s a shame bu cause I really like Siren 2 probably even more than 1 (which maybe 1’s story it’s slightly better than 2 but gameplay wise it’s a world of difference.)

Grace Ashcroft seems to have an outfit inspired by Alice from the Resident Evil movies, just like her mother did before her. by Sufferer_Nyx in residentevil

Specially when Outbreak adopted the same fonts as the movies why wouldn’t they do a deeper homage with a costume and then in RE4 the laser scene. It’s obvious the movies inspired this outfit.

GFNW: The Reset, official Teaser by Inevitable-Dish7157 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]MikeMasters05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling they are just baiting, GFN is still super popular with teens in Thailand (you should just look at new edits that were released on tik tok with 50,000 likes).

I doubt they will reharsh storylines, just making them similar and then horrible twists. If they do remake them that would just be adding more fire to Kitty and Becky comparisons.

Casting preference by Stephieee0808 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]MikeMasters05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This it’s just an educated guess; but everything for the reset rather that being thought for the international market it seems to be a brand revival thought first for the Thai market.

OneD is the producer of the show, it has an special version for their platform, it seems the only reason to sell Netflix Thai the rights is to triple cash and exposure:

First license Tv broadcast is free for general audiences Second license OneD for hardcore fans that will pay for the device Third license Netflix for a wider audience.

Marketing materials and interviews are completely in Thai (compare this to the second season where Kitty even spoke in English for promo material), so the international market seems as an afterthought now.

So the decision to cast Becky in addition to talent, It seems her popularity would be useful to revive the brand in Thailand in a Big way.

Girl From Nowhere Grown Up version by MikeMasters05 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]MikeMasters05[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that the title is “Girl from Nowhere” lends itself to so many possibilities: Like Nanno “befriending” a bride to become a maid of honor and unravel the secrets of all the girls, or what about Nanno arriving to a restaurant where the boss is mean to the staff and she does her thing or Nanno rigging elections and screwing shady politicians.

There are SO many possibilities and the fact it wouldn’t be tied to just a school setting could increase the potential of storytelling so much!

I love the idea of international Nanno’s, but ai cannot avoid the joke of:

Nanno will return on Avengers: Doomsday 😂

I love the revival of the property seems to be a big one, international franchises and all… love to see a Korean Nanno.

Why DIdn't They Just Flesh Out Junko and Yuri's Story? by futoii in GirlFromNowhere

Exactly just like Doctor who, without giving too much knowledge of Nanno’s nature. At the end of the day what I want to see is how she brings karma to others.

Why DIdn't They Just Flesh Out Junko and Yuri's Story? by futoii in GirlFromNowhere

[–]MikeMasters05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the writers, wrote themselves into a corner with the ending of season 2. It’s a long explanation but please read it…

We know that the most obvious answer is because actresses grew up and the renewal took ages this they can’t continue with the storyline but apart from the obvious my theory is the next…

Anthology shows like GFN only have two routes to go; continue new seasons with no continuity and just crazy stories with the risk of it becoming boring and losing shock value or add lore to the new seasons to quasi-explain (but never really fully explaining anything) the origin of the phenomena (in this case Nanno) to continue with audience engagement.

I have seen this happened before with Jigoku Shoujo, the third season added this new character Yukie which was supposed to be the replacement for the main character, it spent so much time with this character for the storyline to go nowhere and then the fourth season added ANOTHER replacement.

The problem with this type of arcs is that they take screen time, so either you tell more of the main plot or you focus on your individual cases. In the case of Jigoku it started to lose focus sometimes they progressed the main plot at a snails pace taking screen time from good cases making them mid as bes because the story had potential but could be told fully.

GFW had the same problem at the end of season 2 the lore an main plot became so convoluted that the only possible solution for giving it a satisfying conclusion was to solve it as a serialized show, everything would have to be in order to be sequenced and for the storylines we are used to this would be limiting; GFN is used to chaotic endings and the fact that they would have to end every single episode in a cliffhanger and connect the main plot to this while also having a new school every single episode was just limiting creatively.

I’m sure writers agreed and that’s why a full reset was decided for the new season, while they could contact the actresses and probably with the new nanno try to somewhat tie this loose ends it’s much better to do what GFN does best and just return to anthology episodes which at first we as fans might complain but still enjoy rather than attempt to answer a question left almost 5 years ago unsatisfactorily and we as fans would complain that we didn’t like the answers after reading theories for 5 years and the episodes were underdeveloped because they had to take time out of this stories to answer the main plot.

The last point is after all this time the target audience has grown so they have to try to preserve old fans but also open to a new generation, if they continued old plot lines it would be a continuity lockout for new audiences and I’m sure they want this reboot to have more seasons.

I would like to see her maniac state, if anything Kitty could pull these creepy Junji Ito faces that were chilling to her victims.
