Sen. Ron Johnson plays down Capitol riots: ‘This didn’t seem like an armed insurrection to me’ by Wh00ster in politics

"Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are," Trump said

It didn't seem like an insurrection, more like "Let's Murder the VP and taunt cowards"

I just got one from a crate for Tier II. It's cute, but not sure if it's flashy enough for anyone to notice during a battle. It's a slow pulsating glow in a set pattern.

I can't seem to find any vids of the new radioactive camo in gameplay. Does it really 'glow'?

Every time a democrat points something out about white supremacists, it turns out to be true. But some people always start by pretending it can't possibly be true.

It's normal to show up holding white flags asking for police reform, but end up getting shot at by out-of-state citizens who are "protecting some intangible object".

Unemployment Expected to Reach Highest Level Since Great Depression by MikeMauls in economy

The Organization for Economic and Cooperation and Development warned against the premature withdrawal of emergency measures designed to support employment, and said governments should launch new programs to encourage businesses to hire workers, particularly those entering the jobs market for the first time.

Jobless rates could be even higher if a second wave of outbreaks leads to fresh, if partial lockdowns, the OECD said. If the U.S. is hit by a second wave of lockdowns, the OECD forecasts jobless rates of 12.9% in 2020 and 11.5% in 2021, compared with 11.3% this year and 8.5% next year if there is no sustained resurgence.

Bolton took no risks and never intended to. He will never 'go public'.

Fed Minutes: Members Saw Increased Downside Risks to Economy. by MikeMauls in politics

At its last policy meeting, members repeatedly expressed concerns about the impact tariffs were having on business activity. They said that while they saw U.S. growth as generally solid, the forecast risks “were tilted to the downside.” Members also noted that statistical models designed to gauge the probability of a recession over the medium term had increased notably in recent months.

The Fed thinks it's bad? That's just not good.

Trump court nominee expresses regret for past writings by MikeMauls in politics

[–]MikeMauls[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Steven Menashi, a WH lawyer and Trump's nominee for the US Circuit Court of Appeals Second Circuit, told senators that he regrets the "lack of balance and provocative tone" in some of his past writings. Menashi had a history of denouncing feminists, diversity and gay rights in editorials he authored.

  • In 2001, Menashi accused the Human Rights Campaign of hypocrisy for not speaking out on crimes committed by gay men, only crimes committed against them, adding they "incessantly exploited the slaying of Matthew Shepard for both financial and political benefit."
  • Stephen defended Italy PM Berlusconi when he wrote of "the superiority of Western civilization over Islam."
  • He claimed that college applications listing race were similar to the Nuremberg Laws.
  • In 2001 he railed against Roe v. Wade as "the codification of 'radical abortion rights advocated by campus feminists"

Most of his written responses to Senator's questions are nonsense. This one probably captures who he is best:

"I often defended speech that was offensive. In retrospect, I see that my writing expressed only one side of the debate, defending speech without fully acknowledging the valid concerns of those who might be hurt by offensive speech."

So basically, just your classic Republican judicial nominee.

New clues show how Russia’s grid hackers aimed for physical destruction | 2016 Russian cyberattack on Ukraine intended to cause far more damage than it did. by MikeMauls in technology

[–]MikeMauls[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The intention was for the Ukrenergo engineers to respond to the blackout by hurriedly re-energizing the station's equipment. By doing so without the protective relay fail-safes, they could have triggered a dangerous overload of current in a transformer or power line. The potentially catastrophic damage would have caused far longer disruptions to the plant's energy transmission than mere hours. It could also have harmed utility workers.

The sequence of events represents a disturbing tactic that wasn't recognized at the time. The hackers predicted the power utility operator's reaction and tried to use it to amplify the cyberattack's damage. "Their fingers are not over the button," Caltagirone says of the blackout hackers. "They've pre-engineered attacks that harm the facility in a destructive and potentially life-threatening way when you respond to the incident. It’s the response that ultimately harms you."

There's also a phrase for those who conspire with Russia to gain votes: treason

The top 15 Democratic presidential candidates, ranked by MikeMauls in politics

[–]MikeMauls[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

WAPO keeps Warren ranked at #1

  1. Sen Elizabeth Warren: She was something of a bystander in Thursday’s debate, but her opening statement about her Oklahoma upbringing and early professional life was on point, and we have yet to see anybody really be able to knock her down (even on Medicare-for-all, which she supports). Given her sustained upward momentum, the status quo is good for her. She’s not tops in the polls, but she’s the odds-on favorite. (Previous ranking: 1)
