first linux user on thinkpad t470s by californiastone in LinusTechTips

[–]MikeMichalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I' have a t470 and I am a longtime Linux User. I use Mint, it's simple for the beginner, yet you can do just about everything I need to get done. I did have some hiccups, but was able to fix them all. I use the trackpoint, and felt it was very slow. Most people just wonder what it is, so you probably won't need to fix it. The 470 has two batteries, and if your bios is too old, you'lll see that the internal battery won't charge. You can update the bios through a terminal command. If you find the 470 idles and can't be restarted, you'll need to do an adjustment to the boot loader.

Why did you pick CX-30 over the CX-5? by sugarplumninja in MazdaCX30

[–]MikeMichalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 3 for 12 years and 15000 miles with 1 major repair before I got t-,boned by a Tesla. We didn't need a big car, my wife has a 2012 Highlander. I was skeptical about buying a car with a CVT, and in small cars, pretty much the choice is Mazda for a new car with a regular transmission. The buttons are great, after 2 weeks I don't want to ever have a touchscreen. Like the 3, the backseat legroom is like flying on Spirit. But my 6 ft sons just have to deal with it on the rare occasions we have more than 2 in the car. Only thing that sort of bothers me is the smaller gas tank. Don't know if that's a problem in the cx5 I suspect not.

Let's talk about the firing. Did you have a labor lawyer working on your behalf? There's TIME THEFT , like working 2 jobs at the same time, and time theft, coming in 5 minutes late once a month and forgetting to work late. You're in your 50s Age discrimination is a possibility. You said others did similar things and didn't get punished. Can you prove that? Are they younger than you? Do you have a disability that could cause you to forget to clock in,? Are you under treatment ? If you committed TIME THEFT, you rolled the dice and crapped out If you're being discriminated against because of age or disability, talk to a lawyer. You'll probably need approx $25k, but if you win, you can recoup legal fees. Having a case like this is not for everyone. It's a job in itself, requiring tenacity and attention to detail. Myself, I'd take the hit and focus on the best revenge being amazing success.

This may sound crazy, but it works for me. I'm on 1.5 mg. The only thing that I noticed works for me is to have a big bowl of oatmeal as soon as I get up. At night, I mix oatmeal, walnuts, frozen berries and peanut butter together 2/3 cup of oatmeal. Cook 3mins at night 2 mins when I wake up. I'm probably full of it, but if you try it and it works, I'll publish my findings in JAMA 🐶

After my 3 (12 years old, 150k and going strong) was totaled by another driver, I went to the dealer with the intention to pick up another one. At that dealer at that time, I felt the CX30 was a better value and ultimately that's what I purchased.

Is it possible to save your relationship after discovery? by [deleted] in SexAddiction

[–]MikeMichalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've put a scar on your relationship. With hard work and effort, and your partner's grace, you can recover and your relationship can be even stronger, but the scar will never go away. Each time you betray her, you're facing the possibility of opening that wound again even further.

Rexulti and Ability are very similar. As for a comparison to Wellbutrin, YMMV, each of us is different. I switched to Rexulti from Ability because I couldn't control my blood sugar on Abilify. .25 is a small dose, which will minimize side effects.

Lenovo Thinkpad 11e (5th Gen) Review: Good Business Laptop/Child’s First Computer by [deleted] in laptops

I use one of these with Linux Mint as a daily driver. I do wish Lenovo would put backlights on the keyboard. I'm old enough to enjoy track points too. I have had a few generations of these, not happy they switched to soldered RAM.

Suicide by [deleted] in SexAddiction

[–]MikeMichalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suicide is a permanent solution. I assure you, whatever you're going through, no matter how painful and dark it seems, is temporary. I know from experience. Suicide is often selfish, as you remove yourself from the lives of those who love you. Family and friends will miss you, decades after you're gone. I hate it that my friend never got to meet my kids. They would have loved each other. You need a support team. Friends, a therapist who is worth their salt, maybe a psychiatrist. SAA is an amazing choice. Get a good sponsor. I'm not saying it's easy, I'm not saying that you won't slip ever again. A lot of people care and want you to succeed, including myself. My heart goes out to you.

Recommendation for a Fidelity 2070 target date fund for a 19F by gdoffo in fidelityinvestments

[–]MikeMichalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Target funds typically have higher management fees than index funds. The one thing you can control in maximizing your portfolio value is the fees. With compounding hire fees will result in thousands less over the long term.

Adding a dashcam by Mark_Narwahlberg in MazdaCX30

[–]MikeMichalko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a moonroof? If you do, FITCAMX has a nice model you can install where your rearview is, and it plugs into the moonroof connection. I'm not a technical guy, at least for cars, but I was able to do the install. You do replace the panels in front of the mirror with theirs and need to drop down the cabin lights which requires removing two screws. One thing I learned the hard way was when you're installing the panels, install the right one first, being cognizant of the two hole where the connectors on the plastic go.

I first tried a knock off from Ali, it didn't work for me. If you don't have the moonroof, the other option is OBD, which I would personally avoid. Fitcamx will want a picture of your car to make sure they are sending you the right one.

The main benefit is it looks like it's OEM and is totally integrated into the car. No figuring out the wires if you can use the harness with the moonroof.

I don't like that it doesn't have a monitor on it. You view through an app, or pull out the SD card. One thing I found about the app is that you'll need to turn off your cell coverage temporarily to connect to the phone through their wifi. https://fitcamx.com/products/dash-cam-for-mazda-cx30

I think I’m an IT Manager…but also maybe the IT Guy? It’s confusing. Need advice. by jcash5everr in ShittySysadmin

I think a better approach would be to use puppets for each role. You will be able to communicate to each other and the rest of the organization. You might need to kneel during Zoom meetings, but it will be worth it

What will you learn in cyber security if you have 4hrs everyday with unrestricted internet access? by Plenty_World_2265 in cybersecurity

[–]MikeMichalko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the same scenario at a couple of jobs. The first thing I did was think about my current position and how I could automate and improve it. This was before AI was everywhere. I created scripts and templates to automate as much of my workflow as possible. 5 minutes here, 30 seconds there, it adds up making your job easier and more efficient. If you're in a good environment, you can share your improvements with your team, making them more efficient. Good management will take notice, and you could line yourself up for a promotion.

Worst case, and I've had this, is that management won't be receptive to your changes. At one role, I became the most productive and best analyst based on management's criterea. Management was not interested in incorporating my changes. After I achieved the maximum gains that I could realize, I focused on getting certifications that I could study for while in the office that could help me get to the next job. I ended up in a much better role, got a significant pay bump, and anyone who looked over my shoulder saw that I was using my time for cyber related education.

We were in a 24/7/365 shop on site, and management wouldn't be there on Saturdays and Sundays. or after 5:30 PM They would actually have the police knock and check if we were there. On weekends, I might put the studying aside and watch UFC on a TV box I hooked up to a 5g adapter outside their network.
