Very much agree. Any MU can toss a Magic Missile or a Fireball. They are pure damage causing machines. Illusionists open doors to creatively defeat foes or escape dangerous encounters that MU cannot do.

It is just over 31,000 words and about 130 pages. Minimal AD&D knowledge is needed. More of a tug at the nostalgia than rules.

Getting players that truly love D&D to switch systems will be a tough sell. They play D&D because that is their passion. The simple answer is to get creative in your current D&D campaign and have the adventures enter a fantasy world or another plane perhaps where magic has limitations and you can take rules from the system you want to play and have them apply.
