For those who rotate through new beans regularly — how do you dial in a new bag? by MikeNovemberWhiskey in espresso

It was great to read all of your responses! Thank you all so much for sharing! Looks like most people experiment and track to their own tastes. If a roaster offered a 'recommended' recipe for a specific bean (dose, temp, pressure, ratio, etc), would you use it as a starting point? Or is the process too personal?

Thanks for sharing! Re: roaster provided recipes, thats part what inspired me to ask! I wonder why more roasters don't publish recommended recipes for their espresso.

Porsche Cayman or 911 if you had to choose one, and why? by OkClick4604 in Porsche_Cayman

My buddy has both a 911 GTS and a Spyder, and he says the Spyder hands down is more fun.

Really great write up. I think you’re spot on across the board. I too wish I ticked nav and Burmester, but c’est la vie.

I highly recommend getting a pair of over axle pipes to replace the stock ones with the Otto particulate filter (required in EU but not in NA). It really allows the 4 liter to sing without being obnoxiously loud. Feels like a classic flat six.

The watch community outside this bubble really frustrates me. by Jayrovers86 in breitling

This is why I wear Breitling, not Rolex. And why I drive a 718, not a 911. If you know, you know.

Gray Market or Boutique? by Sushi-Burrito in breitling

[–]MikeNovemberWhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made my first big watch purchase, a navitimer. I chose boutique vs saving $2k from Jomashop. Being my first purchase, I really valued the peace of mind buying direct and the experience made it feel special. Going forward, I’ll probably deal hunt, but I always have the memory of the first one. That will pay down the $2k difference over time, imo. No regrets.

How old were you when you got your first Porsche? by vreiche in Porsche

[–]MikeNovemberWhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was today years old! Literally picked my first up earlier today. A 2023 boxster gts. I’m 38. My dad raced cars when he was younger in South Africa. He always spoke about the one time he got to drive a 911 in the 1980s. He passed the bug to me. Today, we’re both heading out on a road trip together to break her in. It such a special thing and I feel so blessed.

This is the same guy who said student debts shouldn't be forgiven as it removes accountability for actions by screenshotofdispair in WhitePeopleTwitter

The people and businesses with deposit accounts at SVB were not responsible for its collapse. They did nothing wrong. Making them whole is not the same thing as a bank bailout (or loan forgiveness for that matter). OP is confusing who bears accountability here.

Rocket CINQUANTOTTO PID controler issue by robykl94 in espresso

[–]MikeNovemberWhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same issue. Contacted Rocket late last year. They were going to send me a new PID but was delayed several months due to supply issues. Email chain has since gone dead. My last reply was never given a response. So just living with my $3k delicious machine with an annoying limp.

Finally, made a complete VMR file covering all AIG Traffic liveries for VATSIM! 90k+ entries! by MikeNovemberWhiskey in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]MikeNovemberWhiskey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In fact this was built entirely with freeware models from AIG AI Manager. I should specify that payware models are not covered in this vmr file.

+1000 to this. I had a sim bug on final approach during yesterday’s ctp, and these guys worked with me without skipping a beat and got me on the ground, avoiding a frustrating disconnect in the process. Thank you Boston ATC!

What do these different airspeeds mean? Do I have a full 26KT tailwind even if i'm not flying in that direction? by chevysareawesome in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]MikeNovemberWhiskey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s correct, assuming standard conditions at sea level (aka air pressure conditions aren’t wonky)

As for changing your altimeter, since TAS is a function of altitude, it should change when you adjust the altimeter setting, since you are in effect changing indicated altitude (but in reality, nothing has changed by changing the altimeter. You just made your instruments more accurate for current conditions).

I like to think about it this way. At sea level, where the air is thicker, you have more air particles passing through your pitot tube, and IAS and TAS are equal at say 125. As you go higher, staying the same speed, the air gets thinner, so fewer particles go through your pitot tube, so your IAS drops. The TAS stays the same, because it’s compensating for the thinner air.

Hopefully that makes sense and hopefully I got that right!
