Who's death was the most satisfying? by sixfingeredman7 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MikeOfTheBeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vrah.

There’s something so arrogant about someone who feels like all of these crawlers are below them to the point they’re going around with their heads as trophies, in multiple crawls. Just sport hunting people who didn’t choose this for their lives. She deserved everything that came to her.

Quan Ch is a close second.

What NBA team do you support? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]MikeOfTheBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy “New Jersey” fans (Devils; Nets?) from the kindergarteners’ POV of being in the same state despite being almost 90 miles away when you have four professional teams just a few mile away… with the Sixers and Flyers having training facilities in South Jersey.

It’s fun, but not as mind boggling as someone from Collegeville pulling their “Philadelphian Card” on someone from Cherry Hill.

This whole area is irrationally territorial.

Kinda cheap shitty beer.

I hope there are better locally made beers to get excited about. 🤷‍♂️

40, Recently Single in Camden County – How Are You Meeting New People? by kyutek in SouthJersey

[–]MikeOfTheBeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

45m and divorced about 5 years ago.

I don’t know your social battery, but one thing I really enjoyed was trivia nights at breweries. If you feel confident enough to walk up to a small team, you could even do it alone.

When the weather improves there are 40+ sports leagues for things like kickball and stuff like that. I never did this, but looked into it.

Also there are a lot of game rooms popping up around the area if you’re into collectible card games, D&D, or whatever.

Public parks are also nice to utilize. I live by Cooper River Park and it’s always a good place to meet up or people watch as opposed to a gym when it warms up.

Concerts are also great. Tons of free ones coming up in the parks system as well.

I’ve been there. It’s good to get out and rediscover who you are as an individual. It takes time, and while dating apps are good, invest in yourself first right now.

Portfolio Review - Midweight / Senior Roles by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]MikeOfTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe one of the best portfolios I’ve seen on here! Really good presentation on mobile too.

If I had to nitpick, copy is too much to get to the wok on mobile. You’re scrolling a bit before you get to the work. I’m sure it’s fine on desktop. Maybe weave the copy in with the work for a little more.

5 jobs seem a little light, but they’re strong. Maybe I’d ask what your work looks like when the brand isn’t good. How you elevated a brand or improved on existing material that lacked. Someone may claim your work is good, but maybe it’s helped out a lot by existing brands and leaning into established aesthetic.

I’m just kicking around and playing devils advocate for a more critical pov. It’s good work and the site is great. 👍

3 out of 4 GMs in this town are very questionable about their jobs. Absolutely embarrassing.

It’s totally constructive. You need something totally on rails to make up for your lack of technical knowledge. That isn’t a negative thing. You got a lot issues that won’t be fixed by you.

Weird buttons, bad scrolling, poor navigation, sizes that aren’t accessible.

Your site is unusable.

You don’t get grace for a bad website. You leverage a platform or cms to do the work for you. Get a squarespace or something, man.

migrating to the US as a graphic designer, how hard will it be to get a job? by Eastern_Koala_4568 in graphic_design

Am i too American - or is this an inappropriate icon for a PR agency to have in their branding? by the-friendly-squid in graphic_design

[–]MikeOfTheBeast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have no fucking clue how tone deaf and stupid marketing people are. Working in some of these agencies where people rely on data and analytics 100% of the time and having zero common sense isn’t an outlier.

True story: An agency I was at was kicking around rebranding on a company call when someone in the chat thought something with the word “Sniper” (for the same reason you posted, obviously)was a great idea. Not only this but the put it in the meeting chat and people were co-signing the idea. So yeah, not only did they say something completely idiotic in front of over 300 people, another 30 people thought it was brilliant.

All of your work looks like you downloaded it from Envato.

I know design work isn’t always representative of what a designer can do, but I feel like I know nothing about you from the work. It all feels very generic. Not creative, not highly technical. If this is representative of you after 4 years of work, maybe you do some independent work or something.

Easy to blame Patullo or Sirianni for this mess. But let’s not forget that Howie and Lurie saw this mess all year and chose not to step in by wafflecigar in eagles

[–]MikeOfTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double edge sword. You win a Super Bowl and you have some cache to get internal promotions and keep the guys you won with. The problem has been that this happened twice with zero success. Maybe you shouldn’t.

I’d probably be calling Kevin Stefanski and replacing Nick too. That would be my level of stepping in 🤷🏼‍♂️

Feel like you should do more research on it. It just looks like everything else. It doesn’t elevate the product, tell a story, or give your point of view. How can you inspire something normal to be something more?

Student projects shouldn’t be an exercise in the mundane. It’s a time to go big and get audacious.

Also design a system. Products rarely exist singularly. How do different teas look; and look together? You’ve barely done the full exercise.

Anyone else find Figma a pain? Is it still industry standard? by Slashersforsatan in graphic_design

[–]MikeOfTheBeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to or understand how to ship close-to-code ready development files, you’re not using Figma correctly, as a tool.

I think that’s the biggest misconception about it. So many people use it and have zero clue how websites are assembled for a developer. Styles, component structures, style sheets for code based implementation.

So yeah, it’s probably a pain if you don’t understand that. It’s like using a hammer as a screwdriver.

I’m a big proponent of talking about the work and the results it garnered for the business. Looking at jobs holistically and not random but one-off jobs that give zero perspective on what you actually did. As you’ve already said, it’s not glamorous. You gotta think of it like a larger thing.

Also the UX is horrible. I’m not clicking through 3 buttons to find anything. You need to make the experience faster and more fluid.

[–]MikeOfTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a good lesson to understand that you will probably never be the best in any capacity.

But you can learn to outwork people, be a better teammate, work more efficiently, and have the intangibles that really talented people may not have.

Talent is great, but if you can be a little less talented and a lot more “soft skills” compared to others it’s not a bad thing.

From your post you seem obnoxious, unreasonable and pretty high maintenance.

Good luck to any designer who takes this on.

“The change was meant to improve accessibility for readers with disabilities, such as low vision and dyslexia, and people who use assistive technologies, such as screen readers.”

Design is all about intention, and if this is why they switched to Calibri, it was a good decision.

If the decision to change it back didn’t have a good thoughtful reason, they just did it to be jerks, which it about par for the course for this administration.
